For both men and women worldwide, field hockey is one of the world's most popular sports- trailing only soccer. Field hockey has expanded greatly on both coasts of the United States in recent years, providing people of all ages with more competitive playing opportunities.
The UCSD Field Hockey Team is a member of the Western Collegiate Field Hockey Conference, which consists of teams hailing from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, UC Santa Barbara, Santa Clara University, Chico State University, UC Davis, University of Southern California, Claremont McKenna College, as well as the occasional out-of-state team.
UCSD Field Hockey is a competitive program with the goal to compete in both the WCFHC Playoffs and Nationals on a year-to-year basis. In the past, the team has been very successful, being crowned champions of the WCFHC League for the last four years. The UCSD Field Hockey team has also placed second in the NFHCA College Club Championships in years prior. For our 2022-23 season, we aspire to repeat the success of past teams and win our fifth championship in a row.
Our regular game season is during the Fall Quarter: from the last week of September until the first week of December. We hold 3 practices a week, falling on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 6-8 PM. Our Monday practice is held in The Rec Gym, while our Tuesday and Thursday practices are held on Muir Field- our home field. UCSD Field Hockey also participates in a Spring Season starting mid-April that runs through Memorial Weekend in May. Each year in our Spring Season we participate in multiple tournaments, such as Play for Pink and Cal Cup!
We encourage all new and experienced players to come out for the team. It will be one of the best decisions you will make while you are here at UCSD. We have a great group of dedicated and talented players as well as a fantastic coaching staff who are looking for new additions to the program. Become a part of the UCSD Field Hockey Family and make your own mark on the team. We look forward to seeing you on the field!
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact our president, vice president, or officer.
