10/18/25 - UCSD Secures 2–1 Win Over UCLA in First Away Game
UCSD field hockey earned an impressive 2–1 victory over UCLA in their first away game of the season. Traveling with fewer players than usual, the team faced a tougher challenge in managing rotations and stamina, which made lineup adjustments key to their success. Despite the shorter bench, UCSD came out strong and stayed composed throughout the match, showing great teamwork and adaptability.
UCLA struck first in the opening quarter, capitalizing on an early offensive push. However, UCSD quickly responded with a goal from James, who found the back of the cage after a well-built play that started from the midfield. The equalizer reignited UCSD’s momentum, and the team’s defense tightened up, with solid clears and communication preventing UCLA from extending their lead.
In the second half, UCSD broke the tie with a second goal that showcased their persistence and passing precision. From that point on, the team focused on maintaining possession and defending their lead, with the backline and goalie making key stops as UCLA pressed for another goal. When the final whistle blew, UCSD walked away with a 2–1 win—an encouraging result that highlighted their resilience and ability to perform under pressure, even with a shortened roster.
