Water Polo

Founded in 2001, the UC San Diego Men’s Club Water Polo Team has seen an incredible journey from a small group of enthusiasts meeting at odd hours to a powerhouse in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA). We compete fiercely in the Southwest Division, winning our region for the past 5 years in a row.

From our humble beginnings, we've grown into a nationally ranked team, demonstrating that the journey to a national championship wasn't just a dream but an attainable goal. In 2022 we won our first national title, and in 2023, we did it again! This accomplishment is a testament to our determination, hard work, and incredible talent that drives this team forward.

As we continue to build on our successes, we welcome new talent to join our ranks. 10/12/24 - UCSD Takes on ASU at their Men's Water Polo Tournament

It was another dominant tournament for UCSD Water. The B-team had a great tournament going 3-1 in the tournament despite playing 2 A-teams. The first games for both days were won pretty-handedly, letting everyone play pretty evenly. The game against UofA was action-packed and stayed neck and neck to the very end. Despite being close, everyone got equal playtime, which led to the game being so close. Against SDSU A, the B team did not shy away and kept the score tied at half. However, the starters eventually got tired and had to get subbed out, leading to SDSU A gaining momentum and pulling away with the win. Read More>>

9/29/24 - Men's Water Polo Pre- Season Tournament

Cold, foggy, morning games are difficult, but not for our men's water polo team! We played very well in our first real competitive match of the season. Bringing this group together for the first time to play was difficult, especially for a 9 AM game. We started slow but gained an early lead and maintained dominance throughout the match. With our lead, we could play every person on our roster and develop great chemistry among our team for our first game. Our second game of the tournament was significantly more intense and much more of a challenge for our guys. UCSD developed an early lead against SDSU. Read More>>

4/20/24 - UCI Tournament

Our first game was played against UCSB's A team. This was a close matchup that went back and forth for the first half of the game, with UCSD tied at the half. In the second half of the game we locked up our defense and pulled away to secure the win over a solid Santa Barbra squad. The second game was played against UCR. This was a team that we have faced the previous years in one off-season tournament or another. The game began rough for UCSD, trading goals off some close missed opportunities. Read More>>

7/23/23- Mesa College Invitational Tournament

After winning it all last year, the eyes were on us for our first game of the new season. In the first five minutes of our first game against UC Santa Barbara, we conceded two flukey goals, but we weren’t shaken. The squad answered right back with 6 unanswered goals. By halftime, we had amassed a comfortable 5 goal lead and ended the match with a 17-9 win. This game showed the league that UCSD men’s club water polo is back and maybe even better than last year.
