The UC San Diego Women’s Club Soccer Team is part of NIRSA Region VI: West Coast Soccer Association – Premier Central Division, which also includes UC Irvine, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, and the University of Southern California.
Fall Quarter is the busiest time of year: league matches begin the week following tryouts and the team travels to Santa Barbara to participate in the UC Santa Barbara Invitational, in addition to other independently scheduled matches. Based on their league standing and NIRSA rankings, some teams are also invited to play in the Regional Tournament, from which they can qualify to participate in Nationals. During Winter Quarter, we compete against teams in Southern California, in addition to a weekend of round robin friendlies with schools in and around the Bay Area. Spring Quarter means Spring League and a variety of university sponsored tournaments, including UCLA’s Bruin Classic and the UCSD Invitational, a successful venture held jointly by the Men’s and Women’s club teams since 2009, which plays host to teams from across the nation.
Any ladies interested in becoming a part of the Women’s Club Soccer Team should please contact the captains at ucsd.womens.club.soccer@gmail.com. We currently have one team that rosters somewhere between twenty and twenty-four girls. Tryouts occur during Welcome Week (Week Zero), lasting three days in total.

There is a fee to play for the women’s team that varies annually. In previous years, it has been approximately $500 to $600. Please bear in mind this amount is for the entire year, covering all manner of expenses, including but not limited to apparel, equipment, tournaments, hotels, gas, and referees. Please do not be discouraged if this seems to be financially inaccessible. We fundraise throughout the year to help subsidize costs and take pains to ensure no one is barred from playing due to purely monetary considerations.

4/25-26/25 - UCLA Tournament
4/25/25 - Game 1: Stanford and Game 2: Utah Valley University
The Tritons arrived at UCLA ready to take on Stanford University in their first game of the tournament weekend. The game started with freshman Keahi Davis scoring in the first half off of an assist by freshman Adeline Hooper. Davis then continued her scoring streak in the second half with another goal, assisted by sophomore Luana Veras. The game ended with a score of 2-0 keeping the Tritons motivated to take on their next opponents Utah Valley University. In the second game of the day, UCSD stayed composed, connecting between lines and finding each other's feet with the high pressure of Utah Valley. The game went into half scoreless and both teams came into the second half strong and eager to score. Utah Valley was the team to take the win and move on, however, scoring off of a 1v1 opportunity and making the result 1-0 in their favor. The results from these two games mean that Utah Valley advances to the semi-finals and UCSD plays in a consolation match against UC Berkeley.
4/26/25 - Consolation game: UC Berkeley
In the consolation game on Sunday, April 26, UCSD faced off against UC Berkeley. The game was tight with both teams fighting to take home a win. The first half started with chances on both sides but Berkeley gave the Tritons an opportunity off of an illegal passback to their goalie. This resulted in an indirect free kick for San Diego. The ball was laid off by freshman Charlotte Dossey to Darya Abolmaali, who scored. This was a special point because it was the last game of her club soccer career. The game went into the second half with San Diego up by one. Berkeley capitalized off a mistake by the Tritons, scoring and tying up the game. With an intense last 10 minutes, Berkeley had one last chance to seal the deal but missed a shot by inches. This left the score at 1-1 when the final whistle was blown.
4/10-11/26 - US College Club Soccer Playoff Tournament
4/10/26 - Santa Clara vs UCSD
In the first game of the US College Club Soccer playoff tournament, the Tritons took on Santa Clara on Friday April 10th. With UCSD having won it all last year, every game and goal counts. Both teams started off strong in the first half with a couple of UCSD’s players coming off of the field due to injuries. Going into halftime, the score was tied with no goals scored on either side. The Tritons came out with a want for a goal to capitalize off of. That ambition was answered with freshman Keahi Davis finding the back of the net. With an intense last 10 minutes of play, both teams tried to possess the ball to the best of their abilities. With a second before the final whistle, sophomore Luana Veras sealed a 2-0 win for San Diego. The Tritons are determined to take home another win against their next opponents this weekend.
4/11/26 - Cal Poly SLO vs UCSD
The Tritons started off fighting hard in game 2 of playoffs against Cal Poly SLO. Unfortunately, the Mustangs knocked two into the back of the net within 2 minutes in the first half, taking the Tritons into the second half down 2-0. After an encouraging halftime talk by coach Gerardo Costas, UCSD took the field ready to fight for the second half. The Mustangs put another goal in early, but Keahi Davis responded, putting one in the net with an assist by Kathryn Mokhov. Back in the game, the Tritons fought back and got a second goal by Kathryn Mokhov. It was an evenly matched fight all the way to the last minute, with a final score of 3-2 in Cal Poly’s favor. Both teams looked ahead to their next matchups later in the evening.
4/11/26 - University of Oregon vs UCSD
UCSD continued their playoff run with their next game against the University of Oregon. With both teams having tired legs, they battled to gain more goals for their records. The Tritons came out composed and freshman Kathryn Mokhov took a shot with force, finding the back of the net and securing the first goal of the first half. Soon to be graduate, Mia Fava then added to the score board in her final game, allowing UCSD to come into the half with the lead of 2-0. In the second half, with some chaos in UCSD’s box, Oregon was given a penalty kick opportunity, which they scored making the score 2-1. Mia Fava then responded again with a second goal, bringing the scoreboard to 3-1. The match finished with both teams not advancing to the next round of playoffs, but the Tritons taking a win back home to San Diego.
4/4/26 - USC vs UCSD
On Saturday, April 4, the Tritons faced off against USC for their last home and league game of the year. Looking forward to playoffs next weekend, UCSD was ready to give it their all and gain back momentum after time off. With the first half only a few minutes underway, the Trojans came out strong with a ball in behind UCSD’s backline, creating a 1v1 opportunity and ultimately finding the back of the net, making the game 1-0. With the sun blazing above, UCSD fought to keep possession, but the Trojans made a second run in behind, leading to a second goal that resembled the first. By the time it was halftime, the score stayed at 2-0, and both teams strategized for the next half. Coming out strong, the Tritons were able to work their way up the field, where Adeline Hooper dribbled down the left wing to find Keahi Davis, who scored the Tritons’ first goal of the game. Soon after, the UCSD had another chance off of a corner kick, finding Bella Hoyuela’s feet, shooting, and scoring. The score was now tied up with about 20 minutes remaining, and both teams were eager to gain another point on the board. It was USC who did so by finding space and taking a shot to the back post, securing a 3-2 score. With little time remaining, the Tritons moved the ball with urgency, trying to even the match once again. The game ended with USC taking home a victory, and the Tritons are motivated to learn and improve before next week’s playoff tournament.
2/28/26 - Cal Poly SLO vs UCSD
On Saturday, February 28th, the UCSD Women's Club Soccer team faced off against Cal Poly SLO Women's Club Soccer in a matchup that showcased the high level of competition between the two teams. From the opening whistle, UCSD set the tone. Sharp passing, relentless pressure, and confident possession defined the first half as the Tritons controlled the pace of play. Their dominance paid off when Luana Veras delivered a stunning strike to the top left corner, a goal that excited the sidelines and reflected the team’s attacking intent. Cal Poly responded with a well-placed header to even the score, sending both teams into halftime locked at 1-1.
The second half maintained the same intensity, with both sides battling for every ball and refusing to give ground. However, momentum gradually shifted as Cal Poly capitalized on key opportunities, ultimately pulling ahead. Despite UCSD’s continued effort and determination, the match concluded in a 3-1 loss.
1/30 - 2/1/26 - Triton Invitational
1/30/26 - Game 1 vs PLNU
On Friday, January 30, 2026, in the first game of the Triton Invitational Tournament, the UCSD Tritons women’s club soccer team earned a strong 6–2 win over Point Loma Nazarene University with a balanced attack and consistent pressure throughout the match.
UCSD opened the scoring with a great individual effort from Kate Oberhauser, who dribbled past defenders and finished from outside the box. Charlotte Dossey followed with a goal of her own, winning the ball off a turnover and striking from the top of the box.
The Tritons continued to build momentum, scoring again after a solid team buildup that ended with Chelyn Ackerman finishing into the net. UCSD added a fourth when Isabella Maselli played a quality ball across the field to Kathryn Mokhov, who placed her shot cleanly into the corner.
Luana Veras finished the game with two goals. The first came from a hard dribble by Mokhov and a negative pass for a one-touch finish. Veras then added another after Dossey played a ball into space, leading to a one-on-one cutback and finish from the top of the box.
Point Loma Nazarene scored twice from long range in the final minutes, bringing the score to 6–2 at the final whistle of an exciting game.
1/31/26 - Game 2 vs UCSB
The UC San Diego Women’s club soccer team faced off against UC Santa Barbara in the second match of their home tournament: the Triton Invitational. The two teams were historically evenly matched, having tied 0-0 less than two weeks prior, setting the stage for a great fight in the second game of the tournament. Fresh off a win against Point Loma Nazarene University, the Tritons were ready to face off against the Gauchos.
The match opened with a strong showing from UC San Diego. Centerbacks Allie Spong and Isabella Hoyuela held the ball with confidence, circulating the play from side to side of the field and seeking an opening to strike the Gauchos with a slip ball through the midfield or wingers. Second year Min Joo Kim dominated the midfield, winning every ball and denying UCSB any chances to drive through the middle of the field towards the Triton’s goal. The first half was a steady back and forth, and despite a few well timed runs at goal from former captain Mia Fava, the Tritons were unable to breach the Gauchos tough defense in the first half. Luckily, the Triton’s backline held firm as well, with third year Yukari Mendoza making a few legendary saves to keep the Triton’s in the game.
The second half kicked off and after a strategic conversation with coach Gerardo Costes, the team doubled down with a renewed vigor to hold the ball and find a way around the defense of UC Santa Barbara. Unfortunately, a long ball launched over the back of the Triton’s defensive line to a firmly placed volley landed the Gauchos with a goal in the back of the net. However, the goal against UCSD did not faze the team; instead it lit a fire to play harder and work to earn an equalizing goal. Freshman and All-American college club athlete Addie Hooper gave UCSB a run for their money darting down the right side of the field while Kate Oberhauser won every ball in the middle of the field. Oberhauser was then able to find the ball and send a long cross over the 18 yard line to Chelyn Ackerman, top goal scorer and transfer from UC Santa Cruz, who buried the ball in the back of the net, tying up the score for the Tritons in the last few minutes. The game ended with a score of 1-1, which was enough to eventually send the Tritons onto the final after their game against the University of Nevada, Reno.
1/31/26 - Game 3 vs Nevada
The Tritons came into their second game of the day against Nevada focused and ready to take control. Right from the opening whistle, UC San Diego’s efforts paid off early, as the Tritons scored twice in the first half to build a 2–0 lead going into the break. After halftime, UCSD showed no signs of slowing down. The Tritons continued to create chances and convert them, adding four more goals in the second half while maintaining a strong defensive presence.
The dominant performance resulted in a 6–0 shutout victory. These goals came from Adeline Hooper, Luana Veras, Min Joo Kim, Keahi Davis, Shima Dixon and Allie Spong. With the win secured, the Tritons now shift their attention to tomorrow’s finals match against San Diego State, eager to carry their momentum forward.
2/1/26 - Final vs SDSU
UC San Diego and San Diego State went head-to-head in a super intense and physical game, especially impressive since it was both teams’ fourth match of the weekend. SDSU came out strong with a few dangerous crosses and shots early on, while UC San Diego kept trying to build wide and use the speed of their outside backs. The first half was pretty chaotic, with lots of long balls and quick changes in possession as both teams fought for control. The Tritons finally broke through when Allie Spong chipped a perfect ball over the defense to Luana Veras, who brought it down and finished calmly. Not long after, Mia Fava got fouled in the box, and Veras stepped up to bury the penalty straight down the middle. Late in the game, a lofted through ball bounced off a player’s head and landed right at Shima Dixon’s feet, and she passed it into the net to seal it. UC San Diego wrapped up a strong 3–0 win.
1/25/26 - UCLA vs UCSD
The Tritons came out strong in their matchup against UCLA, setting the tone early with intense pressure and disciplined defending. In the opening 15 minutes, the Tritons controlled the pace of play, pressing high and preventing UCLA from entering their half. The Tritons created several promising opportunities and maintained strong possession, keeping UCLA on the defensive. Around the 25th minute, UCLA capitalized on a rare chance with a one-on-one opportunity against the keeper to take the lead. Shortly after, a clumsy call resulted in a penalty kick in the 35th minute, allowing UCLA to extend their advantage to 0-2. Despite the setback, the Tritons continued to hold much of the possession throughout the first half and remained composed going into halftime.
The second half saw the Tritons continue to fight, creating multiple chances and applying consistent pressure, while limiting UCLA’s attacking opportunities. UCLA’s only real chances of the match came from their two first-half goals, as the Tritons stayed organized defensively and pushed forward in search of a breakthrough. Although no goals were scored in the second half, the Tritons’ effort and control reflected a well-fought performance. Despite the 2-0 result, the Tritons showed resilience and strong play throughout the match, marking an unfortunate but competitive 0-2 loss.
1/18/26 - UCSB vs UCSD
The UCSD Tritons played a tough match January 18th in Santa Barbara against UCSB. The game was aggressive with a few fouls on each team and battles for every ball. After driving 4 hours, UCSD fought hard and were able to secure a shutout, but after many attempted shots, the game ended in a 0-0 draw. UCSD had some beautiful passing sequences and the energy was carried through all 90 minutes. Goal keepers Teah and Yukari had great saves even with numerous corner kicks and free kicks against them. The Tritons will face UCSB again at the Triton Invitational, hungry for a better result.
11/16/25 - UCSD vs UCI
UCSD faced the University of California Irvine, yet again after their win against them in Regionals this past month. UCSD battled hard, but after 3 breakaways from UCI, they were down 0-3 in the first half. The Tritons had many great opportunities but weren't able to put any of them in the back of the net. Both teams came out strong in the second half for another 45 minutes. With another 1v1, UCI was able to secure their lead with a final goal, finishing the game with a loss of 0-4 for the Tritons. As this was UCSD’s last league game of the quarter, the team will take a break until January and prepare for their game against UCLA in the winter.
11/2/25 - UCSD vs SDSU 
On a hot Sunday afternoon, UCSD was ready to face the Aztecs for the third time in the past two weeks. With fresh legs and an ambition to win, the Tritons started off strong with two early goals from Mia Fava and Luana Veras. Though it was challenging, the Tritons continued to maintain possession and control the ball throughout the rest of the half. With a goal by Min Joo Kim, UCSD led the game at halftime with a score of 3-1. The second half turned into a battle between the two teams as the physicality increased. The Aztecs were able to score another goal off a rebound, bringing the score to 3-2. The remainder of the half was intense, with both teams trying to win every ball and tackle. Within the last five, a few yellow cards against SDSU were thrown in the air, but UCSD was able to come out on top with a final score of 3-2.
10/24-26/25 - Women’s Soccer Regionals Tournament
Game 1 - UC Irvine (10/24/25)
The Tritons made their way up to Cal Poly SLO on Friday morning with high hopes and aspirations for the weekend ahead of them, starting off with a match up against UC Irvine that night. The girls started off the half strong and scored quickly with 2 opportunities from Chelyn Ackerman, who slotted 2 shots from outside the 18. Luana Veras put another goal into the back of the net off a 1 v 1 to put the team ahead 3-0 coming out of the first half. In the second half, Irvine got an opportunity off a corner, but the tritons held their own with strong defense from the back line to keep the final score 3-1.
Game 2 - SDSU (10/25/25)
The Tritons started bright and early at 8am in the cold foggy mountains of SLO ready to face SDSU. Both teams were determined to win from the beginning. SDSU got an early lead in the beginning, but the Tritons continued to preserve and tied it 1-1 during the first half. Keahi Davis scored to tie it up. However ultimately in the end SDSU scored a last goal leading to them winning 2-1.
Game 3 - USC (10/25/25)
Coming into our third game of the weekend, the tritons battled 90 minutes to clinch a spot for the semifinals against USC. The Trojans came out hard and scored the first goal of the match off of a counter attack. UCSD responded to this and leveled the scoreboard with an offensive counter attack by new player and freshman Sofia putting the Tritons back in the game. Entering the second half, usc scored their second goal, putting the tritons down by one. After 35 minutes or so of battling, Chelyn won a one v one tackle charging into their half and behind fouled right outside the box with 2 minutes left. Sophomore Kate O. stepping up to take the free kick lobs it into the the box where it was pushed across the line by sophomore Luana V. tying up the game and securing a ticket into the semifinal round of regionals against CalPoly SLO
Semi-final - Cal Poly SLO (10/26/25)
The Tritons came out strong with a goal off a corner by Min Joo Kim, assisted by Sofia Burgarin. Shortly after, Isabella Hoyuela lofted a perfectly placed ball over Cal Poly’s back line, where Chelyn Ackerman fired a great strike into the top netting to make it 2–0. Cal Poly responded with a penalty kick late in the first half and another in the closing minutes of regulation, sending the match to PKs. In the shootout, the Tritons held their composure, winning 4–2, highlighted by two outstanding saves from goalkeeper Teah Glorie to secure the victory.
Final - SDSU (10/26/25)
The championship game at Regionals was between the UCSD tritons and SDSU Aztecs. At their second matchup with the tournament, the tritons came out strong with Keahi Davis scoring the first goal of the game. However, later in the half on counterattacks, the Aztecs scored three goals with two coming from ricocheted balls off of Yukari Mendoza’s saves. With the tritons down 3-1 entering the second half, they were unable to find another goal, finishing with a 4-1 loss against the SDSU Aztecs.
10/12/25 - Aztec Cup Game 3 vs University of Wyoming
The Tritons came out strong in their matchup against the University of Wyoming on Sunday morning, dominating from kickoff and dictating the run of play. UCSD set the tone early in the first half, with Kathryn Mokhov netting three of the team’s six goals to give the Tritons an early lead. UCSD controlled possession for the remainder of the match, keeping pressure on Wyoming from start to finish. Additional goals came from Darya Abolmaali, Kate Oberhauser, Adeline Hooper, Luana Veras, Min Joo Kim, Chelyn Ackerman, Keahi Davis, and Mia Fava, securing an 11–0 victory for the Tritons.
10/11/25 - Aztec Cup
Game 1 - Utah Valley University: The Tritons started strong against Utah Valley, with Adelka Hancova scoring an early goal with an assist from Mia Fava. The Tritons kept fighting throughout the match, holding their own against Utah to a score of 1-1 at halftime. Utah Valley came back, scoring two more goals in the second half, but the Tritons fought hard all the way till the end. The final score was 3-1.
Game 2 - PLNU: The Tritons were determined to gain more points against Point Loma on Saturday night. With the whistle of the first half, both teams came out strong with aggression. PLNU found the back of the net first, but with a throw-in from Madeline Welch and a goal from Luana Veras, San Diego tied the game. Off a lucky play and another goal from PLNU, the Tritons went into the second half with a need to score. However, Point Loma gained another point in the first 5 minutes off a 1 vs 1 in front of San Diego’s goal. Madeline Welch challenged the Sea Lions again by dribbling up the field from the back and finding the back of the net. Both teams fought hard to keep possession for the rest of the half, but UCSD couldn’t capitalize on their second goal, and the game ended with a 2-3 score. The Tritons look forward with their heads up for tomorrow’s third game against the University of Wyoming.
Game 3 - University of Wyoming: The Tritons came out strong in their matchup against the University of Wyoming on Sunday morning, dominating from kickoff and dictating the run of play. 10/4/25 - UCSD vs CSULB
Coming off of just 2 practices, with a new bench, the Tritons took on CSULB in their first game and first league game of the season. In the first half, as UCSD was creating chemistry and playing an evenly matched game, Emma Blancaz made a run and perfectly placed a pass to Luana Veras, who found Freshman, Keahi Davis’ feet, who scored the first goal of the season, the first goal of her club soccer career, and the first goal of the game. The first half wrapped up with a clean sheet for San Diego and a discussion about how to improve and capitalize on their one and only goal. With the second half whistle, the Tritons were determined to gain another point on the board, and that aspiration was granted. Darya Abolmaali connected with Keahi Davis at the outside of CSULB’s 18, where she shot the ball, hitting the back post and finding the back of the net, for a second goal. As the time dwindled, the Tritons had several other attempts and successfully kept the ball out of their goal for the remainder of the game, despite a few fouls along the way. UCSDWCS came out with their first win of the season and a 2-0 score that will carry them confidently into their upcoming games.
4/19-20/25 - UCLA Tournament
Game 1 - UCSD vs University of Oregon (B)
After coming off of a strong weekend at playoffs and bringing home a trophy, the Tritons made their way to Los Angeles to play in the UCLA Tournament. Their first opponent was the University of Oregon’s B team, who arrived on the field with a deep bench. Although this was an early game and start to the tournament, the Tritons were ready to capitalize on their previous wins and find the back of the net. At the start of the half, several attempts were made by UCSD that were met with saves by Oregon's backline and goalkeeper. Then, a cross from the right and a pass by freshman Luana Veras found the feet of Julia Hagedorn, who placed the ball beautifully in the bottom right corner of Oregon’s goal. At halftime, the Tritons were determined to get another point on the board, while Oregon was looking to even the score. The second half kicked off, and the Tritons kept possession for the majority of the time. The flag was pointed to the corner, and Hagedorn stepped up to take it. She played a cross into the box, finding Darya Abolmaali, who laid it off for Veras to tap in. The game ended with 2 goals, a clean sheet for the defense, and another win for the Tritons. Next, they face the University of California Davis.
Game 2 - UCSD vs University of California Davis
As the second game of the day kicked off, UCSD hoped to gain another victory and move on to the semifinals. With motivation and a good match-up up the Tritons huddled on the field ready to give it their all. The first half went scoreless, with both teams possessing and taking shots. As the second half rolled around, the Tritons needed to settle the ball and keep a clean sheet. However, partway through, UCSD lost the ball in the middle, giving Davis a breakaway, resulting in a 1v1 with the keeper and a goal. Shortly after, the Tritons were given a free kick taken by Julia Hagedorn. This led to an assist off of which Suhana Singh scored, tying the game 1-1. With a tight last 10 minutes and a couple of yellow cards for Davis, the game ended in a draw.
Game 3 (Semi-final) - UCSD vs University of Oregon (A)
University of Oregon, with 2 wins, and UCSD, with a win and a tie, were matched up for the UCLA tournament semi-final in another early morning game. Both teams headed to the field with stretched legs, hoping to make their way to the final. The first half was tight until the last 15 when Oregon found the ball outside of the box and took a shot to take the lead. With pressure on both sides, the half concluded with Oregon being up by one, and UCSD was hungry to make their mark and come back in the second half. Oregon started with the ball, and UCSD countered with an immediate press. With another breakaway, Oregon’s offense was able to win the ball and curl the ball into the right of UCSD’s net. There was still time on the clock, however, for UCSD to take advantage of a corner kick. Mia Fava crossed it into the box to Kirsten Whetstone on the back post, who then assisted Suhana Singh. The score was now 2-1 with Oregon still in the lead and about 10 minutes left. UCSD fought to keep the ball and move it up the field with every chance they got, while Oregon tried to get it to the corner and waste time. The final whistle blew, and Oregon came away with the win, advancing to the finals.
4/11-13/25 - WSCA Playoffs 
4/11 - UCSD vs Santa Clara University
The UC San Diego women’s club soccer team was beyond excited to head out on the road to Irvine to participate in the long awaited West Coast Soccer Association Playoffs. This tournament would be the culmination of their league season and was the chance to face off against the best club teams on the west coast to take the title of league champions.
The Tritons were first pitted up against the Broncos of Santa Clara University and were eager to start off the tournament on a strong foot. The game kicked off with a strong start for UCSD, the players showcasing the skills and strategies that the team had been building towards throughout the whole league season. The possession of the ball remained firmly with UCSD as the powerhouse center backs Julia Hagedorn and Bella Hoyuela confidently swung the ball back and forth, prodding at Santa Clara’s defense. A few long balls from Santa Clara’s back line proved dangerous at times, but were no match for the grit of UCSD’s back line. The half finished off with a 0-0 score, leaving the Tritons hungry for the chance to put the ball in the back of the net in the second half.
UCSD started the second half with fresh legs and a renewed determination to put up a number on the scoreboard. Quick transitions out of the back and up to UCSD’s brilliant front line allowed Mia Fava and Jada Romero to slip in behind and find themselves in threatening positions against Santa Clara’s goal, yet a few well timed saves by Santa Clara’s goalkeeper kept the Broncos in the game. The Tritons continued to push to be first and physical to every ball, their efforts headed by Kirsten Whetstone who dominated the aerial game and pushed the Broncos back into their half. Finally, with only about 15 minutes left in the half, UCSD drew a corner kick. Graduate student Julia Hagedorn sent a powerful ball in that was rebounded by the Broncos, but collected by Suhana Singh, who laid the ball off nicely for Julia, who then proceeded to fire a well placed shot into the top left corner from distance, surprising even herself when it fell gorgeously into the net, and with this shot, the Tritons took the lead with a score of 1-0. UCSD battled out the rest of the game by holding the ball in Santa Clara’s half and when the whistle blew, the Tritons left with a victory in the books to start their journey towards WCSA Champions!
4/12 - UCSD vs CSULB
On Saturday morning, the UC San Diego Tritons played Long Beach State, defeating the Elbee’s 1-0. Coming off of a victory from the first game of playoffs, the Tritons were hungry for another win in their second game, while Beach was looking for redemption from their first game. As the first whistle blew, Beach played a low press, giving the Triton’s defense line to circulate and maintain possession. In the first half, Julia Hagedorn scored a stunner after receiving a ball from Lauren Gomez.
The second half displayed resilience as both teams continued to search for more goals. Throughout the game, despite Beach’s efforts, the Tritons back line remained solid, securing a shutout. Things got intense as two yellow cards were awarded, but ultimately when the game ended, UCSD came out on top with a 1-0 win.
4/12 - UCSD vs ASU
In a tightly contested match between UC San Diego and Arizona State University, the UCSD women’s club soccer team walked away with a 1-0 victory, thanks to a brilliant early goal and an overall commanding performance.
The tone was set early on when, just ten minutes into the first half, UCSD center back Allie delivered a stunning lofted ball over the ASU back line. The perfectly placed pass found freshman midfielder Luana in stride, who showcased her skill with a composed volley finish to put the Tritons ahead. The goal was a blend of vision, precision, and technique—a highlight-worthy moment that ultimately decided the match.
Following the goal, ASU initially allowed UCSD to maintain possession, sitting deeper and absorbing pressure. The Tritons circulated the ball with confidence and control, dictating the tempo through midfield. But as the first half progressed, ASU shifted gears, implementing a high press that disrupted UCSD’s rhythm and forced mistakes in possession. Despite the increased pressure, UCSD held strong, relying on their composure and disciplined ball movement to weather the storm.
Though ASU created some dangerous moments with their aggressive press and physical presence, UCSD’s defensive unit stayed organized and resilient. Allie, anchoring the backline, not only contributed to the scoreline with her assist but also led a composed defensive effort that kept ASU from finding the equalizer.
The second half saw both sides fighting for momentum. ASU pushed forward in search of a goal, while UCSD looked to protect their lead and capitalize on the counterattack. Despite the intensity and tactical shifts, the Tritons remained in control for much of the match, with smart game management and strong team chemistry evident in every phase of play.

4/13 - UCSD vs Cal Poly SLO (Semi final)
In a thrilling semi final clash against reigning national champions Cal Poly SLO, our team delivered a performance for the ages, ending a four-year drought against the powerhouse in dramatic fashion. Cal Poly struck first with a counterattack, putting us on the back foot early. But the momentum shifted in the second half when Mia Fava threaded a brilliant through ball to Jada Romero, who coolly slotted home the equalizer, reigniting hope and energy across the squad.
With neither side able to break the deadlock in regulation, the match went straight to penalty kicks — and that's where we took control. Cal Poly missed their first two attempts, opening the door. Luana Veras, Suhana Singh, Jada Romero, and Darya Abolmaali stepped up with ice in their veins, burying their shots to seal the win. The victory not only sends us to the championship final but also marks a statement win over a long-dominant rival — one that we won’t soon forget.
4/13 - UCSD vs UCLA (Final)
In a thrilling playoff final that had fans on the edge of their seats, the UC San Diego Women’s Club Soccer Team emerged victorious against their biggest rival, UCLA, securing the title of Playoff Champions. The matchup was intense from the first whistle, with both teams putting everything on the line. Tensions ran high as the long-standing rivalry between the Tritons and Bruins played out on the field, with every tackle and pass carrying the weight of a season’s worth of hard work and determination. The defining moment of the game came when Mia Fava delivered a perfectly timed assist into the box. Kirsten Whetstone, rising above the UCLA defenders, met the ball with a stunning header that found the back of the net. The only goal of the game and the one that would seal UCSD’s championship win. The UCSD team’s defense held strong through the second half, fending off relentless pressure from UCLA. When the final whistle blew, the Tritons celebrated not just a victory, but a hard-fought triumph over a team that had challenged them time and time again.
3/8/25 - The Tritons Fall in a Scrappy Game vs USC
This weekend, the Tritons faced off against USC in an exciting and hard-fought match. Despite having to work with the small field dimensions, the Tritons made it out of the first half with a 0-0 scoreboard. Entering the second half, the Tritons were quick to adjust their game tactics and got off to a strong start, taking a 1-0 lead with a goal from Suhana Singh, assisted by Jada Romero. The game was definitely a scrappy one with both teams struggling to keep possession of the ball, but the Tritons found their momentum following the goal. Unfortunately, USC quickly responded with a goal to tie things up. As the game neared its end, USC found the back of the net in the final five minutes, clinching the win. The Tritons fought until the very last whistle, spending the last 5 minutes in USC's half. While the result was disappointing, the team is staying positive and focused as we turn our attention to the upcoming WCSA playoffs schedule for the 2nd weekend in April!
2/22/25 - The Tritons Dominate the Toreros
The Tritons took on the University of San Diego with the start of the match being very high intensity. Early on, Mia Fava put UCSD on the scoreboard, latching onto a well-placed ball from Kirsten Whetstone and winning a one-on-one battle before slotting it in at the near post.
Momentum stayed with the Tritons as Luana Veras doubled the lead, capitalizing on a perfectly timed through ball from Emma Blancaz. Veras struck again before halftime, calmly tucking away a well-delivered cross from Jada Romero, sending UCSD into the break with a commanding 3-0 advantage. The second half saw no slowdown from the Tritons. Isabella Hoyuela split the defense with a brilliantly weighted pass, setting up Suhana Singh to dribble and bury another goal with precision. To cap off a dominant performance, Fava coolly finished a sharp through ball from Singh, securing a resounding 5-0 victory for the UCSD women’s club soccer team.
2/8/25 - UCSD vs Cal Poly SLO
The Tritons started off the game against Cal Poly SLO strong and determined. With a clean through-ball from Jada Romero, Mia Fava put the ball in the back of the net and give the Tritons a 1-0 lead by the end of the first half. However, Cal Poly fought back hard in the second half and scored a goal, tying the game at 1-1. Both teams battled it out for the remainder of the time but ended up leaving the pitch with a 1-1 tie.
1/31/25 - 2/2/25 - UCSD Triton Invitational
This past Friday at the UCSD Triton Invitational, the Tritons stepped onto their home field eager to come out strong against California State University, Fullerton. The Tritons dominated possession during the game, and forward Suhana Singh quickly found the back of the net. Freshman Luana Veras scored a hat trick, and players Mia Fava, Elli Sandford, and Darya Abolmaali also found the back of the net. By the end of the game, the Tritons were maintaining strong possession and looked very composed on the ball. UCSD sealed the game with an 8-0 victory and the team was excited for the remainder of the tournament.
After coming off a strong 8-0 win against CSU Fullerton, the Tritons were prepared to take on UC Berkeley on Saturday. Immediately, the Tritons were dominating and taking countless shots on target. The back line continued to move the ball forward and gave the Tritons many counterattacks towards the goal. Unfortunately, these efforts weren't enough to get the Tritons on the board first, as Cal was able to get lucky with a free kick over the top, creating a 1v1 with the keeper and making it 0-1 at the half. Ultimately, the Tritons bounced right back as the whistle blew for the start of the second half. Suhana Singh ran down the right wing, placing the ball perfectly at the feet of Luana Veres to have a clean finish in the back at the net. Just a few moments later, Darya Abolmaali was able to intercept the ball and play it to Shima Dixon who finished with a one-touch shot. The Tritons were up 2-1 for the majority of the half until Cal was able to get a shot off from outside the 18. The game, now tied 2-2 with less than a minute left, didn’t seem to bother the Tritons as they were given a corner in the last moments of the game. Suhana Singh proudly stepped up to take it, placing it perfectly at the back post for Isabella Hoyuela to score a beautiful game-winning header goal. The Tritons finished with a hard-fought 3-2 victory.
On Sunday, February 2, the Tritons almost pulled out a win in their semifinal game against UCSB but unfortunately ended the Triton Invitational with a loss. Although this was the third game of the tournament, the Tritons started the game with energy and put the Gauchos under pressure. They fought hard to stay patient and keep possession of the ball, despite the physicality of UCSB. In the second half, the Tritons went up 1-0 with a goal by Jada Romero and an assist from Suhana Singh. The Tritons held their own until the last 5 minutes, when UCSB snuck in a goal, tying up the game. Per tournament rules, when the whistle blew, the game went straight to penalty kicks. Both teams had excellent PKs, but UCSB ended up with the win.
1/25/25 - Tritons Win Back and Forth With UC Irvine
On Saturday, January 25th, the UCSD Women’s Club Soccer Team took on UC Irvine at Muir Field. This was the Triton’s first game back after winter break, and it was a high-scoring game. In the first half, UCSD dominated possession, frequently building out of the back, connecting up the field, and occupying the final third. UCSD had several close offensive opportunities, but couldn’t quite put the ball in the back of the net. With less than 15 minutes on the clock, UCI scored the game's first goal with a breakaway. Eager to tie the score back up, senior striker Mia Fava (#10) capitalized for the Tritons to bring the score to 1-1. In a breakaway opportunity, UCI scored again, but senior winger Jada Romero (#11) clinched a goal before the half ended, leaving the score at 2-2. In the second half, the possession was slower, as both teams showed signs of fatigue after the eventful first half. The Tritons, motivated to win and filled with energy from a deep roster, dominated again in the second half, locking down on defense and creating more offensive attacks. Freshman offensive mid Luana Veras (#18) scored off of a cross to get the go-ahead, and Mia (#10) scored again off of a beautiful free kick right outside the box to bring the final score to 4-2. The Tritons are feeling strong after this first win of 2025 and look forward to defending their home turf soon at the Triton Invitational!
11/09/25 - UCSD Takes on UCLA in Their Second League Game of the Year
UCSD has had a tough schedule to start off their league season, playing UCSB and UCLA, both of which are going to nationals. UCSD made the trip up to UCLA this past Saturday to face the Bruins. UCSD begins the first half strong, they appear to be composed and making many connections. Shima Dixon had a shot on goal but it was deflected off UCLA’s defender. UCSD’s goalie Teah Glorie made multiple diving saves to keep a clean sheet in the first half.
The tritons came out strong again in the second half. They kept possession the majority of the time. It was an equal matchup throughout the whole game. Adelka Hancova had a shot that just missed wide. Just a little bit after that Allie Spong had a free kick outside the 18 yard box and hit the crossbar. Luck was not on the tritons side. With about 15 minutes left UCLA capitalized on a mistake and had a tap in goal. The tritons tried to fight back and had a few shots at the end of the game but were unlucky. The final score ended 0-1 UCLA, but there were a lot of positives that came out of the game.
10/25-26/2024 - Regionals Tournament
Game 1 vs UCSB:
Starting regionals strong and rested after a long six hour drive from UCSD to San Luis Obispo for Women’s Club Soccer Regionals! Thank you to our trooper drivers who could barely shake out their legs. We had our first game of the tournament at 6 pm versus Santa Barabara who we played just the other week. With a strong starting lineup and the support of our Coach Gerardo, we used new tactics to stay in their half. We played wide to our first wingers Jada and Suhana who utilized our space by going down the line and crossing into the box. With Teah in goal and later Yukari, we were able to play the whole game without letting a goal in! With Jules and Bella as our center backs and Sav and Elli as our outside backs, the defenders made such a big difference allowing the middle to stay open and play through our center mids to play out to our forwards and create chances! We hit the crossbar about 6 times… we were so close. Elli Sanford received a cross and headed the ball and it almost went in! Jules sent perfect through balls creating so many opportunities. We finished our first game 0-0, although disappointed with no goal, we were hungry for our next game versus SLO where we were able to rest up and play at 11 am.
Game 2 vs Cal Poly SLO:
Early Saturday morning, the UCSD Tritons faced off against the Cal Poly Mustangs with a spot in the semifinals on the line. The Tritons dominated possession early on, skillfully connecting passes and executing a high press. However, 15 minutes into the game, the Mustangs scored off a header from a corner kick, and UCSD’s composure began to waver as fatigue from the previous day set in. A wave of fresh legs from the bench helped the Tritons end the first half strong, and shortly after halftime, center-back Allie Spong sent a beautiful long ball through Cal Poly’s defense to Suhana Singh who calmly found the back of the net. Despite their relentless efforts, the Tritons couldn’t recover after the Mustangs capitalized on an unlucky clearance, ending UCSD’s tournament run.
10/12/24 - UCSB Tournament
The Tritons traveled up to play a tournament in Santa Barbara where they took on Colorado in their opening match. They controlled the ball incredibly well through the first 20 minutes, shooting passes back and forth until their first goal from freshman Luana Veras. This goal fired up the team even further, continuing their dominant play pattern against Colorado and leading to their second goal from team captain Mia Fava. Up 2-0, the Triton’s continued their onslaught with Jada Romero striking the ball flawlessly into the top back corner of the net, securing Colorado’s defeat.
Although their first game was completely one sided, UC Davis started fast and physical in game two, putting lots of offensive pressure on UCSD. The Triton’s quickly adapted and fought back, taking control of the game in the later minutes. Despite both teams' efforts, the match ended in a stalemate with neither team scoring a goal, ending day one of the tournament.
UCSD took on Colorado a second time, this time in the semifinal of the tournament. They started off strong, controlling the ball and passing all around Colorado. Although they started well, an unfortunate foul gave Colorado a free kick, which they capitalized on, putting UCSD down 0-1 at the half. The Tritons put pressure on Colorado with multiple scoring attempts from the wings from Mia Fava and Elli Sandford, but Colorado held them off and scored another goal in the second half, leading them to a 2-0 victory over UCSD. Although the loss was disappointing, there were a lot of positive takeaways from the weekend.
10/5/24- UCSD Women's Soccer Vs. UCSB For Their Fall Season Opener
On Saturday, October 5, the Tritons took on UCSB for their fall season opener. Coming off of just three practices, the team was ready to kick off with a new lineup. The game started strong with UCSD dominating and moving the ball around the other half with composure. The defensive line worked hard to deny any early chances and kept possession while driving forward. UCSD took as many offensive opportunities as possible but neither team could find the back of the net by the end of the first half.
As the second half began and both teams made adjustments, UCSD fought to replicate the intensity they set the game off with. With penalties in mind, the scoreless match continued through the majority of the game with efforts from both sides. With 15 minutes left, UCSB managed to make a run down the right wing gaining a point on the board. The remainder of the half was tight with multiple free kicks against UCSD around their 18, one of which was chipped under the crossbar turning the score to 2-0 in Santa Barbara’s favor. Ultimately, the game concluded with a final goal from UCSB scored off of a cross into the back post with only a few minutes remaining. Despite the loss, San Diego looks forward to their upcoming tournament back in Santa Barbara and continues to prepare for the opponents ahead.
4/19-21/24 - UCLA Tournament
The Tritons started off the UCLA tournament against a tough UC Davis side. UCSD started off the game strong with an early goal from Suhana Singh off of a Darya Abolmaali cross. UC Davis fought back hard throughout the rest of the game with both sides getting some close chances but UCSD pulled out a tight 1-0 victory.
Later in the afternoon, UCSD faced Cal in the second game of the tournament. The Tritons started the game off strong with a goal from Mia Fava after a good run from Hannah Waki. Suhana Singh added to the scoring after beating the goalie 1v1 off a through ball from Mia Fava. At the end of the half, Jess Madott made it 3-0 after finishing a scrappy play in the box. The second half was a bit slower for UCSD as Cal got on the board a few minutes into the half. After back and forth play, the Tritons added their final goal from Mia Fava with a great play from Allie Spong and Madeline Welch making the final score 4-1 Tritons
In the semifinals of the tournament, UCSD took on UCLA. The first half was very even with both teams having many chances to score and at halftime it remained scoreless. The Tritons came out hard in the second half fighting for a goal and a few close chances from Jordan Needham and Jada Romero almost gave UCSD the lead. With ten minutes left to play, UCLA scored an unfortunate goal off of a cross that gave them the 1-0 win. Despite the semifinal loss, the Tritons finish their successful season with their heads high and look forward to next year's games.
4/12-14/24 - WCSA Playoffs 2024
UCSD women's club soccer started off the Irvine Playoffs with a solid 5-0 win over UCSC. The Tritons started off the game strong with an early goal from Suhana Singh. Darya Abolmaali added to the scoring after a cross from Singh. Right before half, Singh was fouled in the box and finished her penalty kick making it a 3-0 lead at half. UCSC came out strong in the second half but the Tritons added another goal with a volley from Darya Abolmaali off of a Julia Hagedorn cross. Jordan Needham ended the scoring with a great shot from outside of the box over the goal keeper's head. The Tritons look to hold their momentum as they take on UCI on Saturday morning.
The Tritons faced a strong UCI team in their first game on Saturday. Both teams had early chances but Veronica Yonce got the Tritons on the board with a great finish off of a Suhana Singh cross. UCI quickly countered making it 1-1 just before the half. The second half was competitive with both sides close to scoring, but UCSD broke the tie from a header by Darya Abolmaali off of a Mia Fava corner kick making the final score 2-1 Tritons.
In very rainy conditions, the Tritons took on San Marcos playing only one half because of the weather. UCSD came out strong and Suhana Singh had a well placed goal off a ball from Mia Fava. Darya Abolmaali added to her great weekend of scoring with a good shot after beating a few defenders. The game ended at halftime with a 2-0 win for the Tritons.
After 3 solid wins, UCSD qualified for the semifinals early on Sunday. Because of bad field conditions due to the rain, the semifinal and final games of the tournament were canceled. The qualifying teams will wait to see whether or not these games will be rescheduled.
4/6/24 - UCSD vs UCLA
UCSD took on UCLA on the road as their first game back from Spring break. The Tritons had limited substitutes but came out strong in the first half. The game was back and forth for the first 30 minutes of the match and remained scoreless until a great through ball overtop the backline from Isabella Hoyuela to Suhana Singh created the first chance of the game. Suhana beat the last defender and snuck a touch past the keeper to make it a 1-0 game. The Tritons remained on top going into halftime. UCSD came out even stronger in the second half and had a few close chances but UCLA got on the board to tie up the game. UCSD was fighting through some injuries and cramping and with only about five minutes remaining UCLA got a lucky goal to win the game. The Tritons will play in the League Playoffs in Orange County next weekend where they hope to face some familiar opponents once again.
3/9/24 - UCSD vs Long Beach
The Tritons took on CSU Long Beach in their final home game of the season. Coming off of a successful home tournament weekend, UCSD was ready to play another good match.
The game began with UCSD getting a few close opportunities and gaining most of the possession. Dahlia Scher came up with a few great saves to keep the game even. Halfway through the half, a great combination play by Suhana Singh, Jada Romero, and Mia Fava led to a Jada Romero cross to a Kirsten Whetstone goal. Shortly after, the Long Beach goalie bobbled the ball and Mia Fava was there to finish making it 2-0 going into halftime.
The second half was very physical with Long Beach giving up many fouls. Despite getting close to scoring again, UCSD remained composed and closed the game off with a 2-0 win. With it being the last home game of the season, the seniors were also celebrated for their amazing contributions to the program. The Tritons will kick off Spring quarter at UCLA.
3/1-3/24 - UCSD Triton Invitational
UCSD began the Triton Invitational with a matchup against Oregon. The Tritons started a little bit slow but quickly gained most of the possession over the tough Oregon side. Jordan Needham started off the scoring for the Tritons with a great shot from outside of the box. The rest of the half remained scoreless and after the first 40 minutes the Tritons had a 1-0 lead. The second half was all UCSD with more good goals from Mia Fava and Suhana Singh, and a great header goal from Jada Romero off of a Jordan Needham free kick. The Tritons finished the match with a strong 4-0 win over Oregon.
The Tritons faced CSU San Marcos in their second game of the tournament. UCSD dominated the match with early goals from Darya Abolmaali and Jess Madott. Mia Fava, Jada Romero, and Kirsten Whetstone added to the scoring later on. The Tritons connected really well and had many other goal scoring opportunities towards the end of the match. They finished with a 5-0 win going strong into the last day of the invitational.
Early Sunday morning the Tritons faced a tough SDSU side in their third game of the tournament. With very rainy conditions, both teams struggled to maintain possession. SDSU got on the scoreboard first about halfway through the first half, but UCSD matched the score about 10 minutes later from a good finish from Jada Romero off of a Veronica Yonce cross. At halftime, the score was tied 1-1 which would remain the score for the rest of the match. Despite many close efforts from UCSD, the Tritons and Aztecs finished with a 1-1 draw.
UCSD was then scheduled to play Fullerton in their last game of the tournament. Unfortunately, Fullerton forfeited the match giving UCSD the automatic 2-0 win. With three wins and a draw, UCSD became the champions of the Triton Invitational! Coming off of a strong, winning weekend, the Tritons will face Long Beach at home on Saturday March 9th.

/24 - UCSD at UCSB
On Saturday, February 24th, the Tritons played the Gauchos at UC Santa Barbara. UCSD and UCSB have already met two other times on the pitch this season. With a win and a tie under UCSD’s belt against Santa Barbara, there was angst from both sides.
Within the first six minutes of the game, San Diego is given a free kick outside of UCSB’s eighteen yard box. Jordan Needham steps up to the ball, ready to shoot, but instead finds an opening between the wall and her teammate, Mia Fava. The two make eye contact and somehow understand one another. As Needham runs up to the ball she unexpectedly passes it to Fava, who taps it through the defenders feet, laying it off for Suhana Singh. Singh takes one touch…two touches…and places it in the bottom left corner!!
Up by one, the Tritons are feeling energized. It’s back and forth and back and forth. One team fighting for their first goal, another fighting for their second. Five minutes later, UCSB is on the scoreboard. With the score being 1-1 both teams are feeling more anxious and excited. Both teams are scrambling now, trying to be the ones in the lead. Santa Barbara’s goal brings life back to their team, which leads them to getting their second goal.
With the score being 1-2 Santa Barbara at half time, San Diego is not willing to let these goals go unanswered. As the Tritons walk out onto the pitch, they are ready to give it their all and take back the lead. About 20 minutes into the second half, there’s a chance for UCSD. With a cross from an outside winger, there is a scramble in the box. The ball is bouncing around and finds its way to the top of the eighteen yard box. San Diego’s center back, Allie Spong, finds the ball bouncing toward her and rips it with her left foot. Like a bullet, the ball pierces the back of the net in the top right corner!! It was a spectacular shot that gave UCSD a fighting chance at 2-2.
As the game went on, both teams put up a battle, and unfortunately, UCSB walked away with a win this time, 2-3. This will probably not be the last time the Tritons and the Gauchos meet, but UCSD looks forward to the next.
2/3/24 - UCSD vs USC
UCSD Women’s Club Soccer traveled to their first away game of winter quarter against USC this past Saturday. The first half of the game started slow with the Tritons having to quickly adjust to the small field at USC’s facility. The Tritons had a couple good opportunities and solid chances to take the lead, but were unlucky on finding the back of the net. Sadly, the first half ended with a 1-0 lead to the Trojans after an unfortunate foul called in the box. Starting the second half strong, the Tritons came out with a new energy and a new 4-3-3 formation, with center backs Julia Hagedorn and Isabella Hoyuela holding down the back line. The Tritons found the back of the net in the first 7 minutes of the half all thanks to CB Julia Hagedorn’s finish from Jada Romero’s corner. With the score tied at 1-1, the Tritons were starting to find their groove. Forwards Suhana Singh and Mia Fava were pressing the back line, allowing for the Tritons to gain momentum going forward. Off of a long ball behind the Trojan back line, Mia Fava got on the end of the pass and took the ball down the line, crossing it into the box for Jada Romero to finish—putting the Tritons up a 2-1 lead. However, the lead was short lived after the Trojans tied the game off of a counter attack just a couple minutes after Jada’s goal. The last 5 minutes of the half was a battle from both teams to try and get the win. The Tritons had a glimpse of hope in the last play of the game when center forward Mia Fava got the ball in the middle of the field, dribbled past a couple players and ripped a shot from 30 yards out…hitting the crossbar. Despite the slow start, the Tritons were able to come out with a 2-2 tie.
1/28/24 - UCSD vs UCI
The UC San Diego women's club soccer team walked off the pitch with a huge win over UC Irvine after having come off the field the night before with a 3-0 win over CSUN, ending the weekend with two wins under their belts!
The game was intense from the kick off with the ball under the possession of UC San Diego. Unvexed, the Tritons dominated the Anteaters the first five minutes of the game. Midfielders stood their ground
winning crucial tackles allowing the Tritons for a smooth and quick offensive transition into a counter attack. UC Irvine’s defensive line matched the intensity winning a tackle catching the opponents backline off guard, allowing them to score early on in the game. Not long after, offensive player Mia Fava stepped to Anteaters center back coming out victorious and heading straight to goal, just as the goal keeper stepped off her line, Fava made the split second decision to play a horizontal pass to Suhana Singh, who had followed up on the play, scoring the first goal for the Tritons. The intensity UC San Diego brought to the field was unmatched, their pressure soon led to UC Irvine giving up a corner. Julia Hagedorn grabbed the ball and headed to the corner flag. She placed the ball down and wound up to place a beautiful ball into the 18 yard box, where the defensive line got their head on the ball clearing it about 10 yards outside the 18 yard box where UC San Diego center-back Lauren Beers was able to strike the ball first touch scoring the second goal for the Tritons, giving them the 2-1 lead before the end of the first half.
The second half started with the ball under the possession of UC Irvine where the Tritons quickly regained possession of the ball, knocking the ball effortlessly around the Anteaters, creating many opportunities to head towards goal. As the pace of the game increased UC Irvine picked up their pace as well in an attempt to match the Tritons. They earned themselves a corner kick around the 70th minute mark. The ball was played into the box where UCSD Goalkeeper Dahlia Sher made an incredible save getting her hand on the ball and tipping it out of the goal, but the UCI forward was ready and jumped up for the rebound heading it into the back of the goal, tying the Tritons 2-2. The energy of the match grew more and more as the 90 minute mark approached. Heading into the 80th minute of the game, Veronica (Roni) Yonce won a game changing tackle in the half of the Anteaters, after gaining control of the ball she slipped it through the defensive line into the feet of Suhana Singh once again, taking her first touch in the direction of the goal, winding up her leg, she strikes the ball with great power landing it in the back of the net, giving the Tritons the 3-2 lead. Overall it was an exciting 3-2 win over the women's UC Irvine club soccer team and a victorious weekend!
1/27/24 - UCSD vs CSUN: Tritons' 3-0 Win Over California State University, Northridge
This past Saturday, the Tritons stepped onto their home field eager to come out strong against their California State University, Northridge opponents. The Tritons dominated possession for much of the game but struggled to find the back of the net.
With five minutes remaining in the match, Kirsten Whetstone scored a header goal off of a well-driven corner kick from Jada Romero to give UCSD a 1-0 lead.
To finish off the game, Suhana Singh and Mia Fava each found the back of the net within minutes of each other. While CSUN found a few close opportunities, UCSD defenders put on a hard fought defensive performance and the team did not concede a goal. UCSD players were happy to seal the game with a 3-0 win, and the team is excited for their upcoming game at USC.
1/20/24 - UCSD vs Cal Poly SLO

In the home opener of winter quarter play, the Tritons hosted Cal Poly SLO for a rainy day match. Despite the inclement weather and the onset of continued rainfall, the Tritons and the Mustangs showed up eager to take the field. Both teams came out with intensity from the first whistle, hunting for an early goal. Midfielders Kirsten Whetstone and Naomi Araujo worked tirelessly to create opportunities going forward and shut down plays in the defensive third. After minutes of back and forth possession, the Mustangs were able to find the back of the net off a rebound at the top of the box.
In the second half, the Tritons came knocking at the door for the equalizer. The team’s commitment to maximizing the width in the run of play and threading balls in the attack was a tactic seen to break down the Mustang defense. One play had sophomore Suhana Singh in a close effort against the opposing goalkeeper. At the other end of the field, the Triton defense denied any attempts at goal and did not concede in the latter half of the game. Freshman goalkeeper Teah Glorie came up with crucial saves to keep the Tritons in the mix. Though threatening opportunities were crafted off of corner kicks and free kicks late in the game, the Tritons were unable to penetrate. The team will continue to train and develop as a collective and looks to respond with grit and tenacity in the remaining season. As they enter the coming week, the Tritons will prepare to welcome CSU Northridge and UC Irvine next weekend in a double header at home.
