10/24-26/25 - Women’s Soccer Regionals Tournament
Game 1 - UC Irvine (10/24/25)
The Tritons made their way up to Cal Poly SLO on Friday morning with high hopes and aspirations for the weekend ahead of them, starting off with a match up against UC Irvine that night. The girls started off the half strong and scored quickly with 2 opportunities from Chelyn Ackerman, who slotted 2 shots from outside the 18. Luana Veras put another goal into the back of the net off a 1 v 1 to put the team ahead 3-0 coming out of the first half. In the second half, Irvine got an opportunity off a corner, but the tritons held their own with strong defense from the back line to keep the final score 3-1.
Game 2 - SDSU (10/25/25)
The Tritons started bright and early at 8am in the cold foggy mountains of SLO ready to face SDSU. Both teams were determined to win from the beginning. SDSU got an early lead in the beginning, but the Tritons continued to preserve and tied it 1-1 during the first half. Keahi Davis scored to tie it up. However ultimately in the end SDSU scored a last goal leading to them winning 2-1.
Game 3 - USC (10/25/25)
Coming into our third game of the weekend, the tritons battled 90 minutes to clinch a spot for the semifinals against USC. The Trojans came out hard and scored the first goal of the match off of a counter attack. UCSD responded to this and leveled the scoreboard with an offensive counter attack by new player and freshman Sofia putting the Tritons back in the game. Entering the second half, usc scored their second goal, putting the tritons down by one. After 35 minutes or so of battling, Chelyn won a one v one tackle charging into their half and behind fouled right outside the box with 2 minutes left. Sophomore Kate O. stepping up to take the free kick lobs it into the the box where it was pushed across the line by sophomore Luana V. tying up the game and securing a ticket into the semifinal round of regionals against CalPoly SLO
Semi-final - Cal Poly SLO (10/26/25)
The Tritons came out strong with a goal off a corner by Min Joo Kim, assisted by Sofia Burgarin. Shortly after, Isabella Hoyuela lofted a perfectly placed ball over Cal Poly’s back line, where Chelyn Ackerman fired a great strike into the top netting to make it 2–0. Cal Poly responded with a penalty kick late in the first half and another in the closing minutes of regulation, sending the match to PKs. In the shootout, the Tritons held their composure, winning 4–2, highlighted by two outstanding saves from goalkeeper Teah Glorie to secure the victory.
Final - SDSU (10/26/25)
The championship game at Regionals was between the UCSD tritons and SDSU Aztecs. At their second matchup with the tournament, the tritons came out strong with Keahi Davis scoring the first goal of the game. However, later in the half on counterattacks, the Aztecs scored three goals with two coming from ricocheted balls off of Yukari Mendoza’s saves. With the tritons down 3-1 entering the second half, they were unable to find another goal, finishing with a 4-1 loss against the SDSU Aztecs.
