The UCSD Women’s Lacrosse team is a Division II club team that competes against universities around the west coast in pursuit for the Division II WCLA Championship title. As a part of the Southern Conference for the Western Women’s Lacrosse League, we go head to head against universities like UC Irvine, Northern Arizona University, CSU San Marcos, and more.
We are a group of intelligent and motivated young women, who strive to be their best in the classroom and on the lacrosse field. We foster the values of accountability, discipline, the love for the game, and respect for each other.
Joining our team require no previous lacrosse experience! Whether you have played lacrosse for 6+ years, or are picking up a stick for the first time, we welcome anybody to who’s interested to come check out our practices! Many girls have come into our program having no previous experience, and they have excelled tremendously as a result of their hard work throughout the season.
The UCSD Women’s Lacrosse program has been working hard to establish its presence here on the West Coast. In the 2013-2014 season, the Triton Lady Laxers went undefeated and were crowned the Division II WWLL Southern Champions. During our most recent 2016-2017 season, the Tritons climbed the national rankings, and ended the year ranking 9th out of all DII club lacrosse programs in the nation. We are excited to continue our success to make UCSD a force to be reckoned with in the lacrosse world.
Aside from focusing on what happens on the field, community outreach is a major tenet of our program. The UCSD Women’s Lacrosse team participates in multiple community service events throughout the season. In the past we have run lacrosse clinics at numerous local junior high and high schools as well as working at fundraisers for Alzheimer’s and Epilepsy research.
Our Fall Ball season begins at the beginning of the school year and runs until winter break. The regular season then kicks off in January, where we compete against teams in hopes of earning a bid to Playoffs and Nationals in April and May respectively.

2026 WCLA Nationals Trip Recap – Naples, Florida May 11th-15th
WCLA 2026 Nationals Fourth Place FINISH!!! 
The UCSD Tritons capped off an incredible season at the WCLA Nationals in Naples, Florida, with a remarkable display of skill, composure, and teamwork.
Pool Play – Tuesday, May 12:
The Tritons opened with a morning matchup against #6 Air Force. After a tight first half tied 6-6, UCSD pulled away in the second half to secure a 14-8 victory, fueled by consistent possession and composed attacking play. Sophomore standout Cora Meredith was a dynamic playmaker around the crease, while senior Hope Amend and sophomore Hannah Mazhari anchored a dominant defense.
In the afternoon, UCSD faced #10 Fullerton in the heat of the Florida sun. The Tritons stayed strong, winning 9-6 behind disciplined draw control and smart, composed play despite Fullerton’s aggressive approach. Sophomore attacker Devynn Trang had a standout day, scoring two goals in each game and asserting her dominance at X.
Semifinals – Wednesday, May 13:
UCSD faced Denver in the semifinals at the stadium, falling 5-10. The Triton defense never wavered, with notable contributions from Brooklyn Nguyen and senior Savannah Kezmoh. On offense, Morgan Arrasmith and Leila Mazhari shone—Mazhari’s precise feeds allowed Arrasmith to execute with deadly accuracy.
That evening, the team enjoyed a special dinner with traveling parents who had supported the Tritons across the country.
Final Fight for the Podium – Thursday, May 14:
In their last game against Mizzou, UCSD battled in sweltering conditions but fell 7-10, finishing 4th nationally. With a slow start, the Tritons worked their way back on Mizzou’s trail, never stopping their fight for possession and re-defending, though they couldn’t close the gap. Midfielders Sasha Franklin and Christina Keung showed relentless hustle, and freshman Lianna Lau scored her first national-stage goal, marking a memorable debut.

The Tritons returned home Friday morning with heads held high, leaving a lasting legacy on the national stage and making the alumni and Triton lacrosse community proud. This monumental season ends with tremendous accomplishments, camaraderie, and pride in the UCSD women’s lacrosse program.
4/17-19/26 - WWLL D2 Championship Triton Victory
UC San Diego Women’s Lacrosse captured the WWLL Division 2 Championship this weekend at UC Santa Barbara, closing out their West Coast season with dominance, resilience, and championship-level execution.
On Saturday, the Tritons advanced through the semifinals with a commanding 14–2 victory over Fullerton College. The performance was anchored by goalkeeper Kiara Young, who delivered an outstanding 88% save percentage in a record-level outing. Rookie midfielder Leila Mahzari contributed five goals, while defenders Hope Amend and Hannah Mahzari consistently disrupted possession and limited offensive opportunities for Fullerton College throughout the match.
Sunday’s championship final presented a significantly tougher challenge against an undefeated UC Davis squad, but the Tritons responded with a composed and disciplined 7–3 victory to secure the title. Scoring came at a slower pace, reflecting the strength of both teams’ defensive structures, and the game was ultimately defined by patience and defensive control. The win was built on resilience, growing confidence, and a lockdown defensive effort that kept UC Davis contained for the duration of the match.
A standout performance came from rookie midfielder Sasha Franklin, who recorded nine ground balls and five takeaways through relentless effort and consistent hustle in contested situations. One of the most notable goals of the game came from a behind-the-goal (“X”) feed by junior attacker Cora Meredith, which set up a quick finish from sophomore Devynn Trang in the center.
At the WWLL awards ceremony, four Tritons were named to the All-League First Team: Leila Mahzari (Freshman, Midfield), Devynn Trang (Sophomore, Attack), Grace Beatty (Junior, Midfield), and Kiara Young (Senior, Goalie). Head Coach Nicole Goodwin was also recognized as Division 2 Coach of the Year, honoring her leadership, culture-building, and continued impact on the program.
The season now shifts toward Nationals in Naples, with the team preparing to compete on the East Coast after strong momentum from the conference championship.
3/8/26 - Senior Game Victory vs. USD
The UC San Diego Women’s Lacrosse team closed out their regular-season home schedule with a dominant 14–4 victory over the San Diego Toreros, while honoring their graduating Tritons for a very special Senior Day!!
UCSD came out strong, setting the tone early with several fast goals, notable for the great assists and short sided passes in the 8 meter. The Tritons’ defensive transitions played a key role in maintaining control throughout the game, with attacker Cora Meredith standing out for her relentless hustle! Cora consistently fought for ground balls and helped the Tritons regain possession during crucial moments. The Tritons recognize Cora as the “Beast of the Game” for her hard work and never-ending effort!!
Senior attack Giana May delivered a memorable Senior Day performance, contributing a goal and an assist while making major impacts in the midfield with strong ground-ball play. On defense, seniors Hope Amend and Savannah Kezmoh worked tirelessly to win back possession for the Tritons. Hope in particular had an outstanding showing, demonstrating her strength on ground balls and recording the most takeaways of the game!
In the cage, senior goalie Kiara Young anchored the defense with a strong performance. She helped keep the Toreros scoreless in the second quarter and allowed just one goal in both the first and third quarters.
The Tritons’ midfield also played a huge role in the win, controlling the draw and maintaining constant hustle across the field. Players like Sasha Franklin, top scorer Leila Mazhari, and Grace Beatty were instrumental in keeping the offense moving and the pressure on USD.
After the final whistle, the team held a special ceremony honoring the graduating seniors. A goal at Muir Field was decorated with balloons as teammates, family, and friends gathered to celebrate the seniors and their impact on the program. These 4 players have been an integral part of the Tritons’ success and how the community has evolved into the wonderful welcoming environment that it is today. They will be greatly missed next season!!
The Tritons would also like to thank the many family members and friends who came out to support them on Senior Day—your encouragement has meant the world to them throughout their lacrosse journeys!
While the regular season has come to a close, the Tritons’ year is not finished yet. The team is likely headed to regionals this April at University of California, Santa Barbara. Until then, the Tritons will shift their focus to finals' studying, keep their sticks ready, and enjoy a well-earned spring break! Tridents Up!
3/4/26 - Morgan's Message Game vs. Fullerton Hornets
Under the lights of their home Muir Field, the UC San Diego Tritons hosted the Fullerton College Hornets for a special Morgan's Message awareness game, highlighting the importance of mental health in student-athletes.
The evening was organized in large part by team ambassador Grace Beatty, who coordinated a meaningful dedication night for the program. With Morgan’s Message shirts and colorful hair ribbons worn across the roster, the Tritons proudly showed their support for the cause and the message of mental health awareness in athletics. The team is grateful for Grace’s kindness and leadership in bringing the event together.
On the field, the Tritons delivered a strong performance, defeating the Hornets 10–4. UC San Diego’s defense set the tone early, holding Fullerton scoreless in both the first and third quarters. Goalkeeper Kiara Young anchored the defensive effort with a standout game in the cage, recording 10 saves for an impressive 71% save percentage. Despite the Hornets’ speed, the Tritons stayed composed and capitalized on transition opportunities, particularly through strong redefending efforts.
Attackers Cora Meredith, Pilar Hitchcock, and Lianna Lau were instrumental in those transition recoveries, putting in relentless work on the redefend to regain possession and disrupt Fullerton’s fast breaks.
In the midfield, Leila Mazhari delivered a dominant performance, controlling the draw circle and leading the Tritons offensively with an impressive five goals. Megan Choe contributed two goals, showcasing her quick footwork and skillful dodges to create scoring opportunities.
The 10–4 victory marks another strong home win for UC San Diego and sets the tone for the upcoming weekend, when the Tritons will host the San Diego Toreros for their final home game of the season and Senior Night before heading into finals and spring break.
3/1/26 - Triton's Victory Against the Anteaters
The UC San Diego Tritons picked up a strong road win over the UC Irvine Anteaters in Irvine, defeating the Anteaters 16–4.
Coming off a slower win the night before in Los Angeles, the Tritons were eager to build better momentum. The first quarter was tightly contested, ending in a 2–2 tie as both teams settled in early.
The Tritons began to find their rhythm through strong hustle plays, highlighted by key ground balls from Grace Beatty, Hope Amend, and Christina Keung. Defensively, Savannah Kezmoh created several crucial takeaways, contributing to her recognition as the WCLA Defensive Player of the Week.
Offensively, the Tritons were led by hat tricks from Morgan Arrasmith and Leila Mazhari, each scoring three goals. Senior defender Hope Amend also found the back of the net on a transition breakaway, capping off a standout two-way performance.
Control at the draw circle helped swing momentum in the Tritons’ favor, with the speed and persistence of Sasha Franklin helping UC San Diego dominate possession.
After the close opening quarter, the Tritons surged ahead offensively—scoring 5 goals in the 2nd quarter and 6 more in the 3rd—to pull away for the decisive 16–4 victory. It was a strong road performance for UC San Diego as the team now looks ahead to a week of home games, with matchups against Fullerton College Hornets and the USD Toreros on the horizon.
2/28/26 - Away Win Against USC
Under the Saturday night lights in Los Angeles, the UC San Diego Tritons squared off against the USC Trojans in a hard-fought battle that showcased power and resilience. UCSD came out firing, setting the tone early and carrying a commanding 6–2 lead into halftime. The Tritons controlled possession, applied pressure on both ends, and capitalized on quality scoring opportunities to build their advantage.
USC responded in the second half, clawing back into the game with a few key man-up opportunities that helped shift momentum. But UCSD held firm. Anchored by relentless body defense and composed play under pressure, the Tritons weathered the surge and closed out a 9–6 victory.
Defensively, Kara Pierce was the “Beast of the Game,” refusing to back down from 1v1 matchups and delivering lockdown stops that energized the squad. Christina Keung created major disruption with multiple takeaways, sparking transition opportunities. On the attacking end, rookie junior Pilar Hitchcock found the back of the net with a standout goal, while sophomore Megan Choe generated strong looks and kept the USC defense on its heels with quality shots.
After the big road win in LA, the Tritons headed south to Irvine to spend the night before their next challenge—a quick turnaround with a morning matchup against the UC Irvine anteaters awaiting.

2/21/26 - Triton Home Opener Against Concordia
UCSD women’s lacrosse had their home opener this weekend against the Concordia University Irvine Eagles. It was a hard-fought battle that showcased resilience from start to finish, Tritons ended the game (6-9).
The Tritons wasted no time making a statement, striking within the first minute of play. Megan Choe delivered a beautiful assist to Leila Mazhari for a lightning-fast opening goal that energized the home crowd. However, UCSD’s momentum slowed, and they were held scoreless for the remainder of the quarter.
Concordia capitalized on several shooting space calls, converting multiple 8-meter penalty shots to build their lead. By halftime, the Tritons trailed 2–6 but remained determined to close the gap.
The third quarter brought continued intensity on both sides. UCSD battled relentlessly, while Concordia’s physical play resulted in five yellow cards throughout the game compared to just one for the Tritons. Despite the deficit, UCSD’s defense stood strong throughout the contest, with standout efforts from Brooklyn Nguyen, Hannah Mazahri, Savannah Kezmoh, Ahmi Bissi, and Kara Pierce, who anchored a gritty defensive performance.
In the final minutes, the Tritons showed their heart, scoring twice in the last two minutes to narrow the score to 6–9 at the final whistle. Though the comeback fell short, the home opener was one to remember, marked by determination and fight.
With postseason aspirations ahead, the Tritons are eager for a rematch with the Eagles and the opportunity to reclaim their crown. Thank you to all the fans who came out to support—the energy of the crowd was amazing!
2/7/26 - Undefeated Santa Barbara Shootout
UCSD Women’s Lacrosse had a dominant showing at the annual Santa Barbara Shootout, going a perfect 4–0 over the weekend and setting the tone for a highly competitive season ahead. The Tritons opened the tournament with a strong 12–6 win over Stanford. After a slow start that saw UCSD down 1–3 at the end of the first quarter, the team quickly found its rhythm and pulled away. A huge shoutout goes to Cora Meredith for stepping up and filling in as an amazing substitute goalie, along with standout defensive efforts from Hope Amend. The team’s growing offensive chemistry was on full display as they took control of the game and possession. Christina Keung had an impressive 4 goals to start the tournament and Leila Mazhari followed closely behind with 3 goals!!
Day one continued with an impressive 10–4 victory over University of Washington, a Division I opponent. Despite the difference in division, the Tritons played with confidence and intensity. As the sun set on the field, Sasha Franklin’s speed and Leila Mazhari’s draw control made a major impact, while low attacker Devynn Trang capped the game with a hat trick. The top scorer was Christina Keung with another strong 4 goals to support the Triton offense!! The win was a perfect way to end day one, followed by a well-earned team pizza stop in Solvang, CA.
Day two began bright and early with an 8 a.m. matchup against Chico State. UCSD worked through the early start, found their flow, and secured a 14–3 win. Rookie attackers Gianna May and Lianna Lau stood out with excellent movement on attack, while Morgan Arrasmith controlled the pace of the game and contributed key scoring.
The final game of the weekend came against fellow Division II competitor Santa Clara. The match was tightly contested, tied 2–2 at halftime, before the Tritons surged in the second half. UCSD shut Santa Clara out entirely after the break, closing the weekend with an 8–2 win. The defensive performance was a testament to Hope Amend, Hannah Mahzari, and Brooklyn Nguyen, who anchored a lockdown second half.
Overall, the Santa Barbara Shootout proved to be another successful chapter in a cherished yearly tradition for UCSD Women’s Lacrosse. With four convincing wins and contributions across the roster, the Tritons left Santa Barbara confident, cohesive, and ready for the challenges of the rest of the season.
2/1/26 - Outstanding 2026 Season Opener against NAU
What a way to start the season for UC San Diego Women’s Lacrosse! The Tritons dominated on the road with a huge 19–3 win over Northern Arizona, showcasing depth, composure, and grit from start to finish.
Leila Mazhari was exceptional on the draw, setting the tone and keeping Triton momentum all game long. The Triton defense was relentless—holding NAU to one goal or fewer in every quarter and the attackers showed incredible effort on the re-defend to keep Triton possession. The defense’s communication, hustle, and pride on that end of the field truly stood out.
On attack, Devynn Trang had a big day with three goals, and Holly Handler turned in a fantastic performance, making smart cuts and creating opportunities for her teammates. A special shoutout to Gianna May, named Beast of the Game, for her calm composure and poise on attack when it mattered most.
This was a complete team win: 10 different goal scorers and 9 of the 19 goals assisted, highlighting the Tritons’ selfless play and depth across the roster. Despite the long drive to 
Flagstaff, UCSD came ready—and one van even turned the trip into a bonding experience with some quality time at the Grand Canyon.
All-around great vibes and momentum to start the season as UCSD looks ahead to the Santa Barbara Shootout next weekend. Let’s go Tritons!
11/8/25 - A Victorious Start to Fall Scrimmages for UCSD
Returning to the UC Irvine Fall Ball Play Day, the Tritons were excited to test their skills and build chemistry with the new team. Starting the cloudy morning strong against CSU Northridge, UCSD scored a mighty 17 goals, with 9 different scorers—a testament to this year’s talented roster. Facing a long time opponent CSU San Marcos, the Tritons came out on top 7-6, attributing their win to strong draw control from players Morgan Arrasmith and Leila Mazhari. The Tritons finished the Play Day against CSU Fullerton, scoring 16 goals and trying to get all of their attackers to finish the day with a goal under their belts. It ended a beautiful sunny day of lacrosse and an amazing start to the season!
5/6/25 - WCLA National Championship 2025
On Tuesday, May 6th, the Tritons boarded a flight to Wichita, Kansas to compete in the WCLA National Tournament. The tournament featured three highly competitive games, each presenting the Tritons with tough, evenly matched opponents. This tournament would mark the end of the 24/25 season, and with that, the trip offered the team a final opportunity to bond and create lasting memories, both on and off the field.
Throughout the tournament, the Tritons showcased exceptional teamwork and unity. Each player stepped up in key moments, contributing on both ends of the field and influencing the outcome of every game. One standout moment came during the thrilling matchup against the University of Denver. The game was neck-and-neck and ended in a tie, sending both teams into double overtime. It was in this high-pressure scenario that Kayla Tracy secured the game-winning goal for the Tritons.
The overtime play demonstrated the team’s resilience and composure. After Denver’s goalie made a save and passed off the ball to their attackers, the Triton defense forced a critical turnover, capitalizing on a mishandled pass. A UCSD attacker recovered the ball and pushed it up the field, ultimately setting the stage for Tracy’s dramatic finish. This win started with a defensive stop, transitioned into a fast-paced push up the field, and ended with a thrilling final goal—perfectly embodying the Tritons’ unity, chemistry, and tenacity.
In recognition of their standout performances throughout the season and tournament, five Tritons earned national honors:
- Hope Amend – First Team All-American & WCLA D2 Defensive Player of the Year
- Sabrina Forbes – First Team All-American
- Savannah Kezmoh – First Team All-American
- Kayla Tracy – Second Team All-American
- Kiara Young – Second Team All-American
The Tritons played their hearts out in Kansas, ultimately finishing 6th in the Nation for WCLA Division II. While proud of their on-field accomplishments, the team is equally grateful for the shared experiences and meaningful time spent together. Ending the season in Kansas proved to be the perfect send-off—full of pride, joy, and gratitude for another unforgettable chapter in Triton lacrosse history.
4/12/25 - WWLL Post-Season Tournament
The Tritons excitedly headed to Santa Cruz, CA for the WWLL Championships, kicking off the weekend with their first game on Saturday. They opened the tournament against CUI and maintained a lead for most of the game. However, CUI’s energy and late-game push gave them the edge, ultimately defeating the Tritons 7-6. On Sunday, the Tritons faced off against Cal Poly. Here, they regained their momentum and established a strong lead early on. Despite a late push from the Mustangs, the Tritons held firm and secured a 9-6 victory. The team wrapped up the weekend earning 3rd place in all of WWLL D2. This weekend was an all-team effort for the Tritons, with key moments on every area of the field. Every player brought their A-game and their ambition to compete, leaving the Tritons feeling grateful and fulfilled by the tournament experience.
In addition to the tournament games, UC Santa Cruz hosted the WWLL awards ceremony, where defender Hope Amend, goalie Kiara Young, and attacker Sabrina Forbes were recognized among the top players in the WWLL D2, earning First-Team All-League honors. All in all, the Tritons are extremely proud of their performance and closed out the 2024–2025 season on a high note, grateful for the season they had and to have finished strong together.
4/6/25 - Game vs UCI
The Tritons took the field on Sunday, April 6th, for their final home game of the season, facing off against UC Irvine. With energy high and focus dialed in, the Tritons came out strong and maintained momentum throughout the game, securing a 12–1 win over UCI. During this game, the Tritons focused on implementing and executing the plays they have been working on all season– which they were able to score goals off of. Goal scorers for the Tritons include Sabrina Forbes with 5 goals, Grace Beatty and Kayla Tracy with 2 each, and Shini Bharadwaj, Megan Choe, and Morgan Arrasmith each adding one.
With this, the Tritons had 6 different goal scorers, displaying a well-distributed scoring effort. On the defensive end, the Tritons were relentless. Savannah Kezmoh had an astounding 7 ground balls, while Destiny Lewis and Hope Amend each collected 5, helping to fuel fast breaks and maintain possession. Further, goalkeepers Kate Shanley and Kiara Young were brick walls– saving 9 goals together against the UCI attackers. The defense played with grit and intensity, constantly forcing turnovers and setting the tone for the game. This win wrapped up the Triton's final home appearance of the season, and they are taking this momentum with them to the WWLL Championship this weekend in Santa Cruz, CA.
3/9/25 - The Tritons Fall to San Marcos
The Tritons came with excitement to their game vs. CSU San Marcos. Starting the game off strong, the Tritons scored the first two goals and ended the first quarter tied with a score of 2-2. However, San Marcos took the lead in the second quarter and led for the remainder of the game, resulting in a loss for the Tritons. The Triton defenders and goalkeepers did an awesome job in protecting their goal from the San Marcos attackers, causing 12 turnovers and coming up with numerous ground balls. But, throughout the game, San Marcos found their rhythm and maintained their momentum, while the Tritons seemed to lose that fire they started with. While the result wasn’t what they had hoped for, the Tritons will take this game as a learning experience and look ahead to their next matchup following Spring Break.
3/2/25 - The Tritons beat NAU In Their Senior Day
The Tritons geared up on this fine Sunday morning to face Northern Arizona University for their Senior Day game. The Tritons quickly gained momentum during this game, scoring 6 goals by the end of the first quarter. But, they slowed down play for the remaining quarters to run strategic plays on the offense. The Tritons had 8 different goal scorers for this game: Sabrina Forbes with 5, Morgan Arrasmith with 3, Devynn Trang and Destiny Lewis with 2, and Brooklyn Nguyen, Grace Beatty, and Naomi Lee with 1. Of these goals, 8 were assisted– an exciting sign that the offense was working together during this game to find the back of NAU’s net. On the defensive end, Savannah Kezmoh, Destiny Lewis, Kayla Tracy, and Carol Wahba worked tirelessly to cause turnovers and get the ball back onto the offensive end. All in all, this game was an entire team effort with the Tritons working together on all ends of the field. After the game, the Tritons ended their morning on Muir Field by celebrating their seniors and their win over NAU.
2/23/25 - The Tritons Win & Raise Awareness For Mental Health in Athletics
It was a warm and sunny Sunday, and the Tritons were ready to show up and show out in their Morgan’s Message game against the University of San Diego. Morgan’s Message aims to break the stigma surrounding mental health in high school and collegiate athletics, making this matchup especially meaningful for the team. The Tritons’ Morgan’s Message ambassador, Grace Beatty, arrived at warm-ups with bows, shirts, stickers, and more, so the team could support the cause throughout their warm-ups and game. The Tritons carried this energy onto the field, jumping to an early 4-0 lead and maintaining control for most of the game. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Tritons held a comfortable lead, but USD found momentum and closed the gap to within two goals. However, the Tritons were able to put a few more goals in, securing an 11-8 victory. This win was a full-team effort—the defense and goalies worked hard to force turnovers and limit USD’s scoring opportunities, while the attackers worked together to find the back of the net. Playing for Morgan’s Message made this victory even more meaningful, and the Tritons were thrilled to take home the win.
2/15/25 - Close Game Against CUI
The Tritons headed to Irvine, CA to play Concordia University Irvine on a sunny Saturday afternoon. The Tritons were the first to score in this game, leading 1-0 for most of the first quarter. However, CUI picked up the pace and ended the first quarter scoring themselves 2 goals. The entire game was neck and neck all the way to the final quarter with a tied score of 5-5. The Tritons held their ground against the CUI attackers while working to get the ball in the back of CUI’s net— ultimately ending the game with a win against CUI and a final score of 8-6. In their efforts, Kayla Tracy, Hope Amend, Christina Keung, Destiny Lewis, and Morgan Arrasmith were the goal scorers for the Tritons. Throughout the entire game, goalie Kiara Young, with the help of the entire defense line, communicated to fend off CUI, working to cause turnovers and ground balls. Although a battle, this game was an exciting one for the Tritons.
2/8/25 - Santa Barbara Shootout
The Tritons headed to Santa Ynez, CA on Friday, February 7, 2025, to compete in the annual Santa Barbara Shootout tournament. They played three games total (vs. CSU Fullerton, Stanford, and UC Santa Cruz) and took home the win for all 3 – ending the weekend with their first shutout of the season! Having three games allowed all of their players a time to shine. In their game against CSU Fullerton, the ball seemed to be more on the offensive end – allowing attackers to shine. Through working together to secure the win, 8 different players scored in one game! In their second game versus Stanford, the defense pulled through to fend off the Stanford attackers, ultimately leading the Tritons to their win. Defenders Hope Amend, Savannah Kezmoh, and Brooklyn Nguyen were amongst the defenders who fought hard until the very end – causing turnovers and picking up ground balls. In their last game against UC Santa Cruz, goalies Kate Shanley and Kiara Young defended their goal with confidence. Making saves left and right, these two kept the Banana Slugs from making a single goal and earned their first shutout of the season! The tritons had an amazing weekend away – they learned a lot, have much to celebrate, and will use this momentum to gear up for their endeavors next weekend in Irvine, CA.
2/1/25 - UCSD Tritons vs. UCSB Gauchos
It was a beautiful and sunny day for the Tritons to host their home opener for the 24/25 season, and the Tritons were ecstatic to get out on the field and play against the Gauchos. The Gauchos had a fiery start, whereas the Tritons took a bit longer to build up their momentum as it was their first game together. The Gauchos were leading 11-2, but in the Fourth quarter, the Tritons picked it up and scored 4 goals while the Gauchos were only able to put 1 in – bringing the final score to 12-6. During this matchup, the Tritons demonstrated teamwork and
determination, highlighting the team's resilience and areas for growth as they continue their season. Goal scorers for the Tritons were Sabrina Forbes with 2, Destiny Lewis, Kayla Tracy, Megan Choe, and Christina Keung. The defense held their ground against the strong Gaucho attackers; defenders Savannah Kezmoh and Brooklyn Nguyen were vital assets on the defensive end in protecting their home goal from the Gaucho attackers. Though the Tritons did not come out with a win, they are confident they can learn from the mistakes made in this game and focus on strengthening their play in preparation for the rest of their season.
11/20/24 - First Fall Scrimmage vs USD
After only two weeks of having our official team selected, the Tritons are back on Muir field for their first scrimmage of the season against University of San Diego. While the Toreros came out strong with fast breaks toward the goal, the Triton defense was able to slow their progression, allowing the Triton attack to score a few on the Toreros. Even with a back and forth effort of goals, the Tritons were unable to find victory against USD. However, this was a great first game for the Tritons and an opportunity to figure out their new chemistry as a complete team. We look forward to playing USD again in the spring and showing what the Tritons are all about.
3/10/24 - UC San Diego vs. San Diego State University
It was a beautiful day at SDSU and the Tritons were excited to play some lacrosse. After a difficult scrimmage in the fall, UCSD was ready to show their improvement and ability against the Aztecs. The Triton defense was strong, causing long possessions and many turnovers. That being said, SDSU had a lot of talent on the attacking end and were able to put a few shots up, giving them the early lead. While the Triton attack had more of a slow start, they really put the pieces together in the fourth quarter and finished the game strong. Unfortunately, the Tritons weren’t able to capitalize on the mistakes of the Aztecs, and SDSU came out on top. Nevertheless, the Tritons left the field feeling proud of how they played against an incredibly talented team. The team had fun, supported each other, and played some good lacrosse. The Tritons had 7 goal scorers against SDSU. Kayla Tracy had a very strong performance in the midfield, scoring 2 goals and winning 5 draw controls. Nikki Shin also had 2 goals for the Tritons.
3/9/24 - UC San Diego vs. UC Santa Barbara
The Tritons arrived on their home turf excited to compete against the Gauchos, as their games in the past were close, exciting matchups. The Tritons were the first to put up a goal, but UCSB quickly scored some of their own and put themselves in the lead. While UCSD had the desire to win and incredible effort, they unfortunately weren’t able to catch up to the
Gauchos. Ultimately, UCSB came out on top. Heather Hirsch, Savannah Kezmoh, and Sabrina Forbes led the Triton attack with 2 goals each.
2/25/24 - UC San Diego vs. UC Berkeley
The game against UC Berkeley was one of the most exciting this season. The Tritons started out with an early lead, scoring 2 goals within the first few minutes of the first quarter. The Bears quickly fought back and put two goals on the board. This set the stage for what would be a very close, exciting match up. With scores being 6-4, 7-8, 11-11, and 14-16 after each quarter, it’s clear that both teams were fighting hard for the win. The Triton attackers made significant strides in this game, and 7 different players scored goals against the Bears. Destiny Lewis and Sabrina Forbes led the team with 3 goals each. Sabrina Forbes and Kayla Tracy were strong competitors in the midfield, each getting 5 draw controls. Ultimately, UC Berkeley kept the momentum going and achieved the win.
2/18/24 - UC San Diego vs. University of Arizona
The Tritons woke up early ready to compete against the Wildcats. While University of Arizona led the game after each quarter, the Tritons fought back and maintained a close game. Unfortunately, the Wildcats were able to capitalize on the Tritons’ mistakes and possess the ball for most of the game. Despite the lengthy Wildcat possessions, the Triton defense had a strong performance throughout the game. They successfully defended a possession in which four yellow cards put them down 4 players. Goalies Kiara Young and Kate Shanley were the backbones of the defense, each having a ~60% save rate. Goal scorers for the Tritons were Naomi Lee with 2, and Nikki Shin, Heather Hirsch, and Sabrina Forbes with 1. Though the games didn’t go as hoped, the Tritons had a blast in Arizona, learning a lot and making lots of team memories.
2/17/24 - UC San Diego vs. Grand Canyon University
The Tritons arrived at GCU late Saturday afternoon after 6 hours on the road. The Tritons had a rough first half, with the Antelopes leading 10-1 after the second quarter. While it took some time for the Tritons to adjust to the heat and post-road trip conditions, they came out much stronger in the second half and shut down the Lopes’ attack. In the last two quarters, GCU only put 4 goals on the board and the Tritons scored 3. While the game didn’t have the outcome desired by the Tritons, it was a great learning experience. The Tritons had to get back on the road after playing GCU and make the drive to Tucson to play University of Arizona on Sunday. Karli Adams showed up strong for the Tritons, putting three goals on the board. Kayla Tracy scored the fourth goal. Kate Shanley had an excellent day in goal with a 68.75% save rate.
2/11/24 - UCSD vs. Santa Clara University
It was a beautiful day for some lacrosse on Muir Field! The Tritons came out ready to play and full of energy. The game was a close matchup from the get-go, with Santa Clara and the Tritons both scoring quick goals. Throughout the duration of the game, the score was always within 3 goals. The Tritons were successful in capitalizing on the mistakes of the Broncos, always hustling to re-defend and turn over the ball on transitions. Defense was a unit against the Broncos, only allowing 6 goals despite their lengthy possessions. Goalie Kiara Young was a force for the Tritons, with a save rate of 60%. She came in clutch during many defensive sets. On attack, Nikki Shin led the goal scorers with 3 and Kayla Tracy followed with 2. It was all tied up in the last minute of the fourth quarter, and Karli Adams scored a beautiful free position shot to give the Tritons the lead. The Tritons were able to hold the Broncos off, pulling off a great first win of the season.
