On Saturday March 3rd, the UCSD women’s club soccer team took to the field to play UC Riverside at home. The Tritons came out strong and before the fifth minute, graduate student Miriam Bell took advantage of her speed on a breakaway, shooting the ball from left field past the Riverside keeper. Ten minutes later, Bell once again came up big, as she beat her defender with a dribble and slipped a well-placed ball into the back of the net. With Bell already two for two, sophomore forward Cynthia Ruiz joined in on the scoring parade. Building from the midfield, junior Elizabeth (Liz) Yang maneuvered around a defender and passed to sophomore McKenzie Kirn, who sent a beautiful cross into the box. The ball took a deflection coming right to Ruiz who didn’t make any mistakes, calmly finishing the ball into the net. Ruiz added another one and by halftime the score is 4-0. With two additional goals coming from Laurel Bowling and Mackenzie Kirn in the second half, the game ended with a score of 6-0 in favor of UCSD. The Tritons will face Northern Arizona University at Warren Field tomorrow afternoon.
