UCSD wins 2-1 in the trenches vs. California Miramar
In another league match, UCSD traveled to LA to play Miramar, who made their strategy pretty clear early on into the game: Send it long and hope to get in behind. After a couple of scares, the Tritons soon adapted, with the back four taking extra care to ensure any long balls were collected. Credits to UCSD’s skills and tactical performance, the Tritons were able to open the scoring with a brilliant strike from forward Kalani Takamura. The team missed a couple easy chances late in the first half, which would come back to bite them as Miramar leveled the score with a goal off a cross.
The game devolved in the second half. Miramar would slam a ball long, and UCSD would send one right back. As the game drew closer and closer to the final whistle, the game got even more out of hand, with fouls being called left and right. Finally, with a stroke of luck, Midfielder Joey Afsari found his way around the keeper in the dying minutes of the game and put the Tritons up by a goal. The game ended 2-1 Tritons.
