Pres Day Invite 2023
Good morning, afternoon, and evening Ultimate fans! Dragon Coalition had another thrilling tournament during President's Day Weekend! Coming in seeded fourth, DCO had some exciting games lined up for the three-day tourney, starting with pool play on Saturday. Marlo “Valen” Ramada and Jessie “Saber” Finkelor had some sick handling points together in these first few games, sophomores filling in big roles on the team this year. Abbi “Pierogi” Shilts sent us to halftime in the last game with a literal superwoman drive through the air to score, nearly snapping her spine in half and definitely impressing everyone in the greater Warren-field area. We ended the day with three wins and one loss, placing second in our pool overall, and headed home to rest up for the coming weekend!
Bright and early the next morning, DCO headed out for another whopping four games. A very heavy load for only the second day of the tournament. Some rookies had impressive defense, with Annika “Flash” Ross showcasing her speed, and Keiki “Valk” Sunderland putting up a great mark. Denika “Sonic” Hallin carried quite some weight for the team as a main defending mark in some of our zone D setups, props to you for being such an ultimate weapon. As we went into our quarter-finals game at the end of the day, the team powered through and continued to play hard. We ended the day with two wins and two losses, very proud of how we played all day. The annual DCO family picnic was moved inside due to rain and raised all of our spirits to go into the following day.
On Monday, DCO had fans on the edge of their seats, with games against our familiar opponents Carleton Eclipse and UC Davis. Dylan “Ravine” Mullaney had some insane open-deep catches and scores, as Starsky would say, “She’s a beast!” And although we had a tough battle against them, we emerged winners in our first game of the day. We head into our tenth game of the tournament shortly after, playing some of our favorite opponents, UC Davis! It was a very tight game, with an end score of 7-6. We won on universe, with the bird, the plane, super Denika “Sonic” Hallin laying out into the endzone for the game-winning catch after several nerve-wracking turns. It was a perfect way to end the tournament, landing us in fifth place, an accomplishment in itself. Let’s go DCO, congrats on playing hard and facing every challenge head on with heads high this weekend. Can’t wait to see what else this season will bring as we take on Stanford Invitational and league play soon! DCO, you know!
