Road to Nationals
Last weekend the UC San Diego Women’s Rugby team competed against Berkeley to move on to the western regional national championships. Tritons scrumhalf Wing Ly scored the first try of the game. This was followed by a successful conversion kick from Sofia Beltran. The Tritons and Berkeley both scored trys soon after making the score UC San Diego 12 – Berkeley 5. The Tritons went on a run and scored three trys in two minutes. Berkeley rallied and scored another try and conversion before the end of the half.
The Tritons dominated the second half of the game. Their strong defensive line kept Berkeley scoreless. McKenzie Bolden got her first hat trick by scoring three consecutive trys in the half. Two more trys by Wing Ly and Di-an Duong and a conversion kick by Sofia Beltran made the final score UC San Diego 77 – Berkeley 12.
The UC San Diego Women’s Rugby team is playing against Chico at UC Davis for the Western Regional Championships on April 9.
