China Peak Race
The weekend of February 5, the team headed up to China Peak for another round of competition. Similar to the event at Mount High, our athletes competed in slalom, gs, slopestyle, and rail jam events.
Kicking off the comp, the competitors got fired up for slopestyle. The China Peak course consisted of two top rail sections followed by a three jump series. For snowboarders, our top male performers were Phoenix Sanchez coming in 4th and Logan right behind him in 5th. For our females, we had podium finishes from Sierra Scarlett in 1st place and Clio Goodwin in 2nd place. For our skiers, our top male performers were Ben Scheerger and Austin Calza who tied for 5th place. For our females, we had Adela Hancova take 1st place for women's ski slopestyle.
Shoutout Bryce Horowitz for getting some sick shots of the team during slopestyle
On Saturday, the GS course was set and our skiers and snowboarders battled it out to get the fastest time they could. Starting it off with our borders, we had a 4th place finish from both Phoenix for the men, and Trinity Leahy for the women. For our male skiers, we had a 7th place finish from Varun Suklikar. Finally, for our female skiers we once again had a top finish from Jordan Flood winning 2nd overall.
Under the evening sky, we gathered at the bottom of the mountain for one of the most fun competitions of the weekend rail jam. For our male skiers, we had Ben get the high score for the team achieving 5th place. For our male riders, we had a podium finish from Phoenix getting 2nd overall in the comp.
Overnight, a winter storm rushed into the area giving us 4-8 inches of fresh snow, and also adding difficulty to the slalom course set up on Sunday. Two athletes were able to prevail, with Seiji Minowada in 5th place and Sven Neuschul right behind in 6th.
Overall, it was a great final regular season race weekend and are super stoked with how the team performed this week.
