1/4/25 - Sailing’s Rose Bowl Regatta
On the weekend of January 4th-5th, the UCSD Sailing Team traveled to Long Beach California to compete in the Rose Bowl Regatta hosted by USC out of the US Sailing Center. This unique event had high school and college fleets, contributing to over 130 teams across 4 divisions. Conditions allowed the race course to be located directly on the Pacific Ocean with rotations off Long Beach City Beach. Racing started at 12 on Saturday and ran to roughly 4 pm. Throughout the day the wind picked up to a maximum of 7kts and a minimum of about 3kts. This light breeze is very typical for a Long Beach Winter. Division A (Shand '26 & Potter '26) and B (Sanford '28 and Evecek '25) completed 4 races each on the first day, securing 2 top-10 finishes. Conditions were even lighter on the second day (Sunday). After an hour of postponement, the breeze filled in and racing began around 12:30 pm. Both divisions competed in 2 more races before the regatta ended at 3 pm. The team had a wonderful time racing and we look forward to continued improvements in our scores. Thank you to USC for hosting such an amazing event!
