2/8/26 - UCSD vs UCLA
UC San Diego took on UCLA on UCLA’s home turf for an intense and hard-fought match, coming away with a strong performance on the scoreboard. The game kicked off with high energy, and it didn’t take long for UCSD to strike first. With an assist from Patty, Mia powered through the UCLA defense to score the opening try, setting the tone for the match. Shortly after, Tak capitalized on a quick break, dodging defenders to add another try to UCSD’s tally. But it didn’t stop there. Caelen followed up with an impressive run, weaving through the opposition like an unstoppable tank and finishing off strong to extend the lead. Chantal then added to the momentum. With defenders bouncing off of them and finishing off a well-executed team play with a beautiful try. Darya, with her quickness and agility, took over in the second half. With our backline confusing the offense and getting the ball out to Darya, she was able to score back-to-back tries, weaving through the defense with dominant runs that showcased her speed and experience. With our fantastic new kicker Mia stepping up to the position with precision and grace, she was able to make three conversion kicks, only adding up the number on the scoreboard. Despite UCLA’s strong defense and amazing runners, Tak delivered the final blow, breaking through UCLA’s defense once again to score the last try of the game. With such a strong and dominant forward line and a speedy back line with some tricks up their sleeve, UCSD’s teamwork, relentless attack, and solid defense proved too much for UCLA, securing a well-earned win. The final score was 41-12, an astounding comeback for the UCSD Women’s Rugby Team.
