2/2/24 - Davis Invite
The Tritons flew up to Davis this weekend to play a total of 8 games.
The A team once again had a 4-0 weekend. First, they faced the Guachos. Goalie Story Waxman blocked a penalty shot and the sprinters won all 4 sprints. The final score against UCSB A was 9-6. Then, they took on SDSU, ending the game 15-8. In this game, the team converted on a majority of their 6on5 possessions and made 15 steals. Kayleigh Dennen singlehandedly won all 4 sprints, including a jump ball!
The next morning, the Tritons beat UC Davis 14-6. 1st year Sonja Ukropina led the field this game with 3 goals, Tania Frank made 5 steals, and the goalies netted 7 blocks. They ended the weekend with a windy game against Cal Poly SLO A. The team added to their score each quarter and converted on 6 ejections. The final score was 11-6.
The UC San Diego B team started the weekend with a close game against UCLA B, which ended 2-4. While they ultimately came up short, the team held their own. The team’s goalies did especially well, netting 11 blocks and 4 steals between the two of them. They built up some amazing momentum in their next game against UC Santa Cruz. With goals scored by 8 different players, the end score was 9-2. They won 3 of the 4 sprints and made 17 steals altogether!
On Sunday, the B team took on UW (score: 5-15) and Cal Poly B (score: 2-9). Highlights from the day include: Aleesa Ebert scoring her 5th goal of the weekend, and the team drawing 5 ejections, and flying home.
As a team, the A team drew a whopping 28 ejections across both days. 4th year Julia Derunes had a stellar weekend. She led the team in goals and assists, 11 and 7 respectively. On the B team side, we saw an incredible 43 steals. Shoutout Risa Cozza for scoring her first collegiate goal this weekend! After this final preseason tournament, the Tritons are ready for official league games, which begin on February 17!
