SCCVL Round 1

The UC Slam Diegans had a strong showing at the league opener this season. Starting the day off with a close victory in three against USC. UCSD's A team made a statement that they were there to win. The second match of the day was against UCSB A, and while the Tritons failed to get revenge for their loss in the finals of the MLK invitational earlier this year, they certainly gave UCSB a run for their money in the second set and showed solid improvement from their last match against them. Not letting that tough loss get to them though, the team proceeded to defeat UCLA in three, putting them at 2-1 going into their final match of the day against the hosting team of CSUN. CSUN was coming off a victory against last year's national champions SDSU, but the guys representing UCSD weren't intimidated in the slightest, and went into the game with the most fire and energy they had all day. UCSD ended the first set with a very convincing victory, but CSUN shook off their overconfidence from their last victory and ended up stealing the second set from the Tritons. Not letting themselves lose their fire, UCSD went into the final set just as loud and energetic as the first, and used that fire to propel themselves to a much deserved victory. Ending the day with a 3-1 record, the team was optimistic about the outlook of their team. With a team very deep in talent, the boys look forward to their next tournament with a hungry gleam in their eyes for more wins.
