Tritons faced off against schools in the Southern California College Badminton League (SCCBL) for the second time this year on Saturday, November 23rd in UCSD's Main and Rec gyms. Prior to the event, club members participated in a fierce rankings tournament which promoted our best players into the positions of facing off against SCCBL schools. In men's singles, juniors Wyatt Fong and Shuto Nishida both won their matches against Ethan Ma and Jackson Hu of UCR, respectively. Fong's match ended in an intense score of 19-21, 21-12, 21-19, bringing it back in the third set to give UCSD the victory. UCSD's Angela Xu beat UCR's Ashlee Thai in women's singles with a dominant score of 21-2, 21-5. An event of highlight was mixed doubles where both pairs of Joseph Bee/Salina Tang and Matthew Chan/Esien Ng comfortably won against UCR. Overall, UCSD had an outstanding showing. Out of 30 events played, UCSD won 25 of them. The next SCCBL event will be hosted at UCLA on January 25, 2025. Ending 2024 on a high note, the Tritons are sure to provide a show in all badminton events while visiting as well!
