    10/4–5/25 – Fall 2025 Tryouts

Recruiting went very well this fall. After several tabling events and increased social media activity, more than 60 prospective members attended the information session on October 1st.

The team’s tryouts follow a two-day format: roughly half of the prospective members launch from Mission Bay Yacht Club to sail on Saturday, while the remaining half participate on Sunday. Four boats were on the water each day, with current members sailing alongside prospective members for about 20 minutes before returning to the beach to rotate in a new person. This structure ensures that every participant has an opportunity to get out on the water and determine whether sailing is something they want to commit to.

Both days brought light to moderate winds—ideal Mission Bay conditions for new sailors. Those waiting on the beach spent the time playing spikeball, tossing a frisbee, chatting, and enjoying the warm fall weather.

Although the team always wishes it could accept everyone, competition schedules and practice demands limit the number of new members that can be brought on. Ultimately, about 35 new sailors were selected, and the team is excited to welcome them into the sailing community. The incoming group shows strong enthusiasm, and many are already eager to begin training. With such promising interest, the season ahead is shaping up to be an energetic and successful one.
