RECREATION LEADERSHIP COUNCIL

email: rlc@ucsd.edu

The Recreation Leadership Council (RLC) provides guidance within the Recreation department to enhance the experience of the broader campus and student employees while promoting lifelong well-being, growth and success. The RLC fosters unity among all the Recreation program areas, which include: Aquatics, Business Office, FitLife, Competitive Sports, Engagement, Esports, Events, Maintenance, Marketing, Recreation Experience, Outback Adventures, and Rec Classes. The RLC is to serve as a voice to ensure each program area can advocate ideas and concerns pertaining to their area as well as the broader department of Recreation.

Current Council Members

Nemesis Lopez- Executive Chair

REC Service Years: 2 years

Favorite REC Activity:
Meet the beach

What do you do in your spare time?:
Read or sleep

Which REC value do you identify with most?: Inclusion and community, just because when I first came to UCSD I really felt like I didn’t have a community to identify with or included with the masses. However once I started working for events they quickly showed me I have a family and a place on campus and I want others to feel the same way.

Percy Dallman- Executive Vice Chair

REC Service Years: 2 years

Favorite REC Activity:
Club Swim!!

What do you do in your spare time?:
Working out, swimming, watching tv, hanging out with friends

Which REC value do you identify with most?:
I like the community value, as I have met some of my best friends (and one of my roommates) through rec. I have found a supportive community in Rec, and want to bring that to other people who work here.

Emma Hargreaves – Executive Assistant Chair

REC Service Years: 1 year

Favorite REC Activity: outback events and the gym!

What do you do in your spare time?:
surf, gym, hike, and climb!

Which REC value do you identify with most?:
Definitely community, as I believe recreation is an integral part of student based community on campus.

Sam Duzen - Esports Delegate

REC Service Years: 3 Years

Favorite REC Activity: REC @ TEC

What do you do in your spare time?:
If the weather is nice, I like to travel or play disc golf, but if I'm staying inside I like to play games with people on my computer.

Which REC value do you identify with most?:
I identify most with REC's value of service. UCSD has so many students that want to have something to do and I know that without REC, their experience here on campus would be worse. That is why not only do I take pride in working for REC to help provide these services to students, but I try my best to make sure I do the best job that I can because if there is any way that I can brighten the lives of my fellow students, I will gladly do that without hesitation.

Aime Nguyen - Rec Experience Delegate

REC Service Years: 1.5 years

Favorite REC Activity:
Rec Classes

What do you do in your spare time?:
Rec Classes

Which REC value do you identify with most?:
I identify with community because it emphasizes connection and support among individuals. Building a strong community fosters collaboration, encourages diversity, and enhances our collective well-being. It’s all about lifting each other up and working together for common goals.

Go to the gym, hike, go to flea markets

Which REC value do you identify with most?:

Dylan Mullaney - Outback Delegate, Outgoing Vice Chair

REC Service Years: 4 years

Favorite REC Activity:
My favorite Rec activity is helping others feel empowered to do things that they didn't think they could before - whether that be braving the gym as someone new to weightlifting or backpacking for the first time.

What do you do in your spare time?:
In my spare time I like to swim in the ocean, bake cookies, and take photos of the outdoors.

Which REC value do you identify with most?:
I identify most with inclusivity and fun in that I think that making recreation - caring for your mind and body - more fun is a great way to make it more attainable for a larger audience.

Pedro Grimaldo Jr. - Events Delegate, Outgoing Assistant Chair

Daniela Estrada - Rec Experience Delegate

My favorite UCSD Rec activity is signing up for fitness classes. I love the variety offered, there’s always something new to try. The classes help me stay active, manage stress, and build a consistent routine.

What do you do in your spare time?:
In my spare time I enjoy going on walks/hikes, trying new coffee shops, watching movies and hanging out with friends.

Which REC value do you identify with most?:
I most identify with community because I value creating welcoming spaces where everyone feels supported, connected, and included. Being part of a strong community motivates me to stay engaged, help others, and grow alongside the people around me.

Shaimae Khan - Aquatics Delegate

Sara Jones - Comp Sports Delegate

Jason Dillon - RLC Exec Team Pro Staff Advisor

REC Department Position: Aquatics

REC Service Years: 22 years

Favorite REC Activity: I love so many of the activities in Recreation, but the one that always leaves me beaming from ear to ear is inner-tube water polo. No other sport combines the high octane, adrenaline pumping natural high of a professional sport, with the laziness of sitting on a floaty in an indoor pool while competing.

What do you do in your spare time?: Read, lift, swim, surf and spend quality time with my family.

Which REC value do you identify with most?: Community - When I was an undergrad student, UCSD Recreation was a huge part of my community and what made me enjoy my time here as much as I did. Now as a professional staff I look to continue that inclusive community that made me feel so welcome in my program area and through the amazing work of the RLC.

Dominic Ackerman – Pro Staff Advisor

REC Department Position: Competitive Sports

REC Service Years: 4 years

Favorite REC Activity: Yoga

What do you do in your spare time?: I play golf, and spend a lot of time walking/hiking with my dog (Chico).

Which REC value do you identify with most?: Leadership - I love giving back to the students and creating experiences that develop learning opportunities.

Beasley, Marc

Marc Beasley – Pro Staff Advisor

REC Department Position: Events

REC Service Years: 11 years

Favorite REC Activity: Working with our student employees on providing memorable events to enhance the student life on the campus.

What do you do in your spare time?: Working in the events world spare time is valued and I remember to reconnect with my family and friends.

Which REC value do you identify with most?: I couldn't identify with just one of our values since I believe they should be and are how I approach my role within UC Recreation in representing my program area, supervising my team and mentoring them. I would emphasize the "FUN" a little heavier than the others. Because as Groucho Marx said "IF you are not having fun you are doing something wrong."
