    WSCA Tournament

This weekend UCSD headed to Irvine for a tournament where they would face off against fellow west coast teams.

The Tritons started strong with a 8-0 win against San Jose State Friday night. Goal scorers included Mia Fava, Madeline Woo, Savannah Arabe, Kirsten Whetstone, and Elli Sandford. Freshman Suhana Singh assisted multiple goals and created opportunities down the flank, leaving SJSU defenders in the dust. The high scoring game gave the team confidence and excitement to face their opponents Saturday.

UCSD started off Saturday morning against Cal State Fullerton, needing another win to ensure their spot in the semi finals. The game started off quick, with Mia Fava scoring in the first 2 minutes off of a 1v1 with the keeper. One more goal from Mia, along with one from Suhana Singh (a follow up from a great shot by Kinsey Brillheart) led to a 3-0 lead at half time. The second half started off a bit slower, but picked up when Mia Fava scored again, finalizing her hat-trick. Suhana added onto the score sheet, leading to a final score of 5-0.

The Tritons then took on UCSB later tonight, fighting for a spot in the semifinals game on Sunday. They started off strong, connecting passes and putting pressure on the UCSB backline. Unfortunately, the Gauchos were able to capitalize on their first attack to goal and the Tritons went into the half down 0-1. They were unable to make a comeback in the second half and the game ended 0-4. This score does not reflect the Tritons talent or efforts as they put up a strong battle. Rather, their weekend has given them a new motivation and determination to perform and ultimately take home the trophy in the upcoming UCLA tournament.
