On February 6th, the UC San Diego Women’s Rugby Team faced off against UCLA. UC San Diego was placed first and UCLA was placed second in conference ranking prior to the matchup. This match proved to legitimize UC San Diego success thus far in the season, because UCLA would be one of the tougher match-ups. However, the Tritons pulled through with a 56-5 win. The match started off a bit messy for UC San Diego, but the Tritons quickly regained their identity and broke the game open. Wing Ly, Teigan MacDonald, Di-an Duong, Jaylin Stevenson, Allie Pyle and Erika Matczenko all contributed to the score line and kicker Ciara Black converted many kicks to keep the Tritons on top. First year players also stepped up and held their own against an experienced UCLA team which came in undefeated. The team is preparing for a trip to Arizona and hope to keep their undefeated season alive.
