Women’s Lacrosse Starts Season with a Bang
The Tritons were restless going into their first game since Spring 2020 and came out to the field ready to go. The season opener versus St. Benedict from Minnesota ended with a final score of 17-2. The game started with a quick goal a minute in that set the tone for the rest of the game. A strong midfield lineup controlled the draw thereafter and the Tritons maintained possession. Sophomore Sophia Terenik came out strong in her first college game as the top scorer with 6 total goals. Junior Captain Delainey Iles—who transferred to UCSD after a season on the D1 team at Liberty University—was close behind with 5 goals. Other notable mentions include Junior Captain Ellen Jurgens (3 goals), Junior Sarah Brown (1 goal), Junior Gillian Husovsky (1 goal), and Sophomore Karli Adams (1 goal). Freshman Goalkeeper Lindsay Rubin had 2 saves and was a vocal leader for her defensemen. The team travels to Phoenix this week for back-to-back games on Saturday against Grand Canyon University and Northern Arizona University.
