Last Saturday, February 25th, the Tritons faced off against the current #1 team in their league. Determined to make their presence known, UC San Diego tied up the game by half time at 5-5. Danielle Viviani, Demi Greiner (assisted by Michaela Juels), Michaela Juels, Nicole Goodwin, and Janet Gleason (assisted by Shivani Das) all scored to tie up the game. Although the Tritons had an impressive team effort on the attack end, their game lacked in transition, defensive and possession abilities. Shivani Das, stepped up on midfield and gained several draw controls from center, Michaela Juels. Goalie, Maria McCavitt, stepped up on the defensive end, shutting down several feeds from Concordia. Concordia scored 3 unanswered goals in the beginning of the 2nd half putting Tritons down. Michaela Juels, drove to cage while doubled and scored her 2nd goal. The Concordia coach then yelled across the field, “What number is she, what hand is she?”, he was then surprised as Juels retaliated back the answer, amused that the coach has scouted him from last year. With 1 minute left, Danielle Viviani received assist from Jen Daluz and scored her second goal of the night for a final score of 11-7, win by Concordia. Although the Tritons lost, it was a much needed wake up call for the work that needs to be done on transitions and defense. The Tritons will definitely be ready to face Concordia when playoffs come.
