USCSA Nationals 2023: A Big Showing on a Big Snowpack
The Weekend of March 11, the nationals crew drove up to Mammoth Mountain, California for a week of championship events. Unfortunately due to bad weather, events were canceled and snow hardness became a major concern for the athletes. Regardless, huge thanks to the entirety of the USCSA and MMSA staff who threw together some really fun courses, got some great photos, and battled the weather with us.
For Alpine, we had Varun Suklikar qualify as the Big West Outstanding Qualifier. He was scheduled to compete in Skier Cross, GS, and Slalom, but unfortunately GS was canceled due to weather. He did have a finals qualifying performance for skier cross placing 32nd in the time trials.
For male ski slopestyle, we had a top finish from ski captain Austin Calza placing 14th overall in the comp. Other UCSD finishes included Ben Scheerger in 29th and Seiji Minowada right behind in 39th.
For female skier cross, we had a finals qualifying performance from Jordan Flood going 24th in the comp. For female boardercross, UCSD turned up the heat placing as the 6th team overall. This was thanks to top performances from Sierra Scarlett and Clio Goodwin who respectively placed 9th and 11th in their time trials. For our male snowboarding, Andrew Keller placed 31st in slopestyle and 37th in boardercross.
Overall, major props to all the athletes who competed last week and we are proud of everybody's performance and the improvements made this season by everyone on the team. Bummed the seasons over, but it's time to get into training mode in the off season.
