This past Saturday the UCSD Women’s Lacrosse Team held their season opener against Concordia! The Triton Lady Laxers dominated the #3 team in the WWLL with a final score of 12-5. This was a particularly amazing win given that our team had lost our head coach just a few weeks before.
At the beginning the Tritons were off to a rough start, with 2 of the girls goals being scored by Concordia in less than 5 minutes. At about halfway through the first half, steam picked up until the Tritons ended up scoring 3 goals back to back. Midfielder, Janet Gleason, dominated the draw with aid from her wings Michaela Juels and Nicole Goodwin. Attacker, Danielle Viviani, had an impressive 4 goals, an 8 meter penalty shot and two impressive 1-on-1 drives. Rookie, Aydan Ackermann, hyped up the Tritons to keep on scoring, and assisted Jiyoung Yun with a goal. Other attackers who put up goals were: Demi Greiner (1 assist), Jiyoung Yun (1 goal, 3 assists), Nicole Goodwin (1), Michaela Juels (2 goals, 3 assists), Jante Gleason (2 goals), Kellen Peddicord (1), Audrey Nunez (1) and Aydan Ackermann (1). Midfielder, Audrey Nunez, pressured the Concordia goalie to a turnover.
On the defensive end goalie, Maria Fernanda Mccavitt-Malvido (what a mouthful), dominated the Concordia attackers around the crease. Rookie, Aidan Ryan, caused multiple turnovers and was a force on the transition.
In desperate need of a moral boost, the Tritons won their season opener and are looking forward to more wins this weekend at the Santa Barbara Shootout!
