UCSD vs UCSC
After an underwhelming scrimmage win against Point Loma Nazarene University, the UC San Diego Tritons went on the road to San Jose to play UC Santa Cruz. The Tritons started off strong once again ignited by faceoff-specialist Austin Weinshelbaum and Freshman attackman Alex Franz. UCSD finished the first half strong with a 7-1 lead. The UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs were energetic at the start of the second half, and carried this momentum for the rest of the game. UC Santa Cruz scored five unanswered goals to end the game but came up short, losing the match to UC San Diego 14-11. The Tritons had some spectacular performances headlined by the Attackman Austin Ortel (4G, 3A), Alex Franz (4G, 1A), and Nick Kro (3A). Midfielders Finn Reid (1G, 1A), Max Arias (2G), and Sam Woessner (3A) also had amazing games. The UC San Diego Tritons learned that finishing the game strong is just as important as a fast start.
