The UCSD Ice Hockey team took on Cal Lutheran at the Escondido Iceplex and after a hard fought game succumbed to a 5-3 defeat. The game started off fast as, seven minutes into the opening period, Cal Lutheran took the lead. Only a minute and a half later they scored again to take a two goal lead. This margin would not hold through the period though as with five minutes left in the first, rookie Nick Parrino cut the lead in half with a nice shot between the goaltender’s legs.
The second period offered more of the same as four minutes into the second period, Cal Lutheran scored reestablishing their two goal margin. UCSD then answered back once more with twelve minutes left into the second period, as captain Patrick Salmas beat the goalie as he roofed a shot towards in the top of the net. The Tritons then managed to tie the game up with two and a half minutes left as Jeremy Fong rifled one in from long range.
Although they put in a good effort it was to no avail as the game ended in a 3-5 loss for the Tritons after Cal Lutheran scored two more goals in the final period. It was a hard fought game, but unfortunately the Tritons didn’t come out with the result they were hoping for.
