UCSD Sailing Participates in Races in Texas and Hawaii!
UCSD Sailing travels to Texas
UCSD sailing had the exciting opportunity to compete in the College Sailing National Invitational on April 29th and 30th. On the first day of the competition, we were all eager to get out on the water, but strong winds of 22 knots gusting to 37 from the north made it impossible to sail. We were disappointed, but we knew that it was better to wait onshore than to risk damaging the brand new fleet of 420Es.
However, the wind began to die down by mid-afternoon, and we finally got the green light to start sailing. Despite the blustery conditions, we managed to complete six races, and then two more as the wind began to calm down into the low teens. We were thrilled to be out on the water and had a great time sailing in the challenging conditions.
On the second day, the winds were the exact opposite of the first day, and it was a struggle to get races off due to the super-light winds coming from different directions. The Race Committee worked hard to make it happen, and we managed to get in a total of four races throughout the day.
In the end, the University of Texas at Austin won by a narrow victory over Northeastern, and we congratulated the winners of the A and B divisions. Despite not winning, we were proud of our team's effort and determination throughout the competition. We had an unforgettable experience and are grateful to have been a part of such an incredible event.
Lastly, we want to extend a huge thank you to the organizers and volunteers who made the event possible. It would not have been possible without their hard work and dedication. We look forward to competing in more events and growing as a team in the future!
UCSD Sailing travels to Hawaii
UCSD Sailors experienced a great weekend in Hawaii with some nice tropical weather, good food and lots of sailing. They explored some fun coffee spots, juice bars and other sites throughout the weekend. Both days had a great southerly breeze that stayed fairly consistent throughout each day. We want to thank the hosts of this regatta, University of Hawaii who helped put this event together!
