UCSD Sailing Hosts Annual Jeff Simon Memorial Regatta
On January 28 and 29, UCSD Sailing hosted our annual Jeff Simon Memorial Regatta, an event honoring the memory of Jeff Simon, a team alumnus who passed away from cancer a few years after graduating. We had an excellent turnout, with 8 boats on the women’s line and 27 for our open fleet (6 of which were UCSD boats). Shifty winds and rainy conditions didn’t stop us from having a great time, with boats placing in the top 5 and 10, and our beginner sailors learning a lot over the course of the weekend. Special highlights include a mast falling on Audra and Stella, who then proceeded to get a fourth, and Gabe and Bella not only being over the line in one race but then death rolling and STILL finishing 8th. Thanks to our wonderful race committee boat (shoutout Coach Robert as always), all the volunteers, and every school that came out to sail – you guys made it an amazing last home regatta for us fourth years!
