UCSD Sailing Flies to Hawaii for the Peter Wenner Invitational
This past weekend, UCSD Sailing sent eight sailors across the pacific to compete in the Peter Wenner Rainbow Invite in Hawaii. This regatta was a round robin with every team switching boats each rotation.
On Saturday morning, they were warmly welcomed by sailors from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. All of the teams in attendance were able to introduce themselves to each other before the racing. There was little wind to no wind, so racing did not start until later in the day. Besides there being no wind, the weather was beautiful with clear skies, warm air, and bright aqua water. As racing began, UCSD Sailing gave it their all as they navigated the shifting wind conditions. Throughout the day, sailors could see a variety of tropical fish that could be through the clear water. After racing the teams enjoyed a barbecue provided by the Wenner family.
On Sunday morning, the wind was still very light, but racing was still able to begin. Our Sailors stayed positive even though the shifting conditions were frustrating and less than ideal. Our sailors had a wonderful time sailing in beautiful Hawaii!
