UCSD Sailing Ends the Season with Some Strong Sailing in Santa Barbara
A couple weekends ago, the UCSD Sailing Team went on an adventure to Santa Barbara to compete in the Fall PCC Regatta. With an amazing showing of many sailors and supporters, the team brought immaculate vibes and competitive spirit from the campsite to SBYC both days.
The teams that raced included ASU, USC, U of Washington, Western Washington, UCSC, Stanford, Cal Poly, UCSB, UCLA, UC Berkeley, U of Hawaii. Competition started on Saturday with light wind and scattered AP flags. Despite this, the team went on to achieve top 10 finishes and packed up to go back to the cozy (frigid) campsite at sunset.
On Sunday, the wind picked up with gusts up to 32kts. The varsity line sailed in these amazing conditions all day, demonstrating the team’s skill in heavy wind with multiple top five finishes. After a couple hours of postponement, JV B sailed their last two races of the regatta to finish out the day. The varsity team finished 12th and the JV teams finished 3rd, 11th, 18th, 20th, and 26th.
Overall, the weekend was filled with great sailing practice, food and memories. Thank you to our Commodore, Vice-Commodore, Fleet Managers, Culinary Specialists and everyone else who made this weekend possible. 🙂
