UCSD Sailing braves the cold at Stoney Burke
Over this past weekend, UCSD Sailing sent a group of enthusiastic sailors to the Bay Area to compete in Women’s, Co-Ed Varsity, and Junior Varsity divisions at the annual NorCal event. Stoney Burke was graciously hosted at the Treasure Island Sailing Center by its namesake, UC Berkeley.
After arriving at Treasure Island on Saturday morning, the team unloaded and rigged their boats before casting them into the bay. Racing that afternoon was met with heavier than expected winds, nevertheless the Tritons gave it their all. In between rotations, sailors enjoyed snacks while warming up in the sun. Sea lions and jellyfish were among the critters spotted at the venue.
Following a brief delay that morning, the team got back out on the water for day 2. Sunday’s winds were less sudden and built gradually over time. Despite a few capsizes and some last-minute rotations, the Sun Gods continued their efforts and secured this year’s Stoney Burke as both a fun time and opportunity to improve our sailing skills evermore!
