UCSD Drops Both in Heartbreaking Loss to Open Preseason
Even though the score reflects two losses for the Tritons, the day was a huge success as it was part of the annual tryout process. Against USD's full roster, the Tritons kept it competitive while fighting for not only the win, but for their spot on the UCSD team. In game one, UCSD put up eight runs on seven hits, thanks to USD's inability to find the strike zone in walking six. Trailing 5-2 going into the third inning, Max Hill came up huge with a three run 422 foot home run to straightaway center. USD rallied late, however, putting up four unanswered runs to win the game. In game 2, it was a lob-sided affair as Triton pitching struggled to throw strikes. After taking an early lead up 6-2, the Toreros put up ten runs in the bottom of the third to go ahead 12-6. After that inning, the game was called due to lack of lighting.
