UCSD defeats CSU Fullerton in their last league game of the quarter!
In their first game after regionals, UCSD traveled to Fullerton to face CSUF. The Tritons scored an early goal off a beautiful half-volley from Lucas Venetoulias into the bottom left corner. Frustrating field conditions and a drop in energy played a role in UCSD’s one major error of the match. The ball took some unlucky bounces in the UCSD box and fell to a CSUF forward who took his opportunity to level the game at 1-1. Late in the first half, forward Kalani Takamura spun past his defender at midfield and carried the ball in on a breakaway before calmly scoring the Tritons’ second goal of the day.
Two goals proved enough for the Tritons to win the match. The entirety of the second half was dominated by UCSD. While the game could have ended with several more UCSD chances put away, the Tritons left Fullerton satisfied with the win and look forward to Directors’ Cup later this month as their final challenge of the quarter.
