With the season off to a strong start, UCSD took on their biggest competitor, USC, in their first away game of the year. UCSD was able to pull ahead and score early in the game, followed by an additional goal scored by Elyse Noda shortly after. With a strong lead at 2-0 going into the second half, UCSD’s defense and structure remained strong. Though USC was able to get one point on the scoreboard, Alberto Montilla Ochoa scored immediately after to put the score at 3-1. Ochoa finished the game strong with his third goal in the latter of the second half, bringing the score to its final total of 4-1. This was a triumphant win for UCSD as they tied USC twice last season 0-0. With this win, UCSD solidified their position in first place while obtaining redemption from last season’s unsatisfying ties.
