The UCSD lady tritons had a sine curve of a tournament this weekend at UCLA. After starting at a low and losing in two sets against USD, the tritons bounced back in a 3 set thriller against USC. After being down 7-14 in the third set to 15, Akemi “Caw Caw” Falcon brought the team back with some quality serving. The team battled hard but came up short, losing the final set 15-17. The next match brought a wild lineup change from Dr. Phil with Gabbi playing outside and Ryley “Rye bread” Moore on the right side. With these changes brought a reinvigorated team and with solid playing from Gabbi and Ryley and wild cheering from Gabbi’s boyfriend, The tritons pulled out a win against UCLA-B, smiting them for the third time in a month. This win put UCSD in 3rd in the pool and in a fight against Cal Poly Pomona to stay in the top division. The other team was scrappy, but the tritons were able to keep them a a simmer and create stock out of their scraps with the help of Alecia “Great Wall” Chen. Overall, the tritons had a good weekend with much room for improvement.
