UC San Diego won the toss and elected to bowl first on Muir Field. UCSD started strong, getting an early wicket within the 3rd over. However, UCI managed to capitalize on the poor deliveries and reach 44 within the powerplay. UCSD continued to add pressure on the UCI batsmen, taking steady wickets and allowing UCI a total of 128/8 in their 20 overs. Despite losing an early wicket in the first over, seniors Karan and Shravan exploited the fielding restrictions of the powerplay and got UCSD to 61/3 within the first 6 overs. Shravan and Ishan scored a fast-paced 75 runs within 5 overs, practically completing the game by that point. Shravan became the Man of the Match with his rapid 53 (21), tying the record for the fastest UCSD half-century. It concluded a great opening game for UCSD in the SoCal Shield tournament with 1 win-0 losses.
