During the second race of the Snowski and Snowboard season, all of the teams did fantastic in their races. On the Skier's side, Joe Breuer finished 1st in Giant slalom, and in his slalom race, battled back from a fall on his first run that put him in 13th place all the way back up to 3rd place overall. Joe's podium finishes helped the Team place second overall, finishing only behind USC in both races! On the Snowboarder's side Irina Bataeva was a standout in her race. She finished second in her Giant Slalom race which helped pull the Female snowboard Team into second place behind UC Santa Barbara.
In the race this weekend, the team also had 14 different team members race for the first time! For some, their first run down the race course was also their first run down a black diamond! Huge congratulations to Andy Pabst and Cristy Barney for facing your fears and getting down the race course! Even with all of the new racer's there were ZERO disqualifications in the Snowboard Giant Slalom race from UC San Diego! This is a huge feat for new (and even experienced) racers, so congrats to all of you!
Our next race is on January 27th-28th. In the meantime, we will be practicing so that our next race will go even better, and continue to pray for snow so that next in the next race, we can participate in Slopestyle, Rail Jam, and Boarder/Skier Cross instead of having them cancelled again!
