In the last home game of the quarter, the Tritons faced USD on the foggy pitch of Sports Deck. The game started off sluggish for the Tritons, who struggled to connect passes. The Tritons spent a majority of the first half chasing a confident looking USD team, who connected well through the midfield line. As the first half came to a close, the score remained 0-0 with USD looking far more dangerous.
However, the second half proved to be the energy boost the Tritons needed to fight back against their best competition yet. UC San Diego possessed quickly through the midfield, keeping the ball out of the hands of the chasing USD forwards. After a clean tackle in the back, freshman center back Hannah Hurd found senior forward Olivia Hadidian on a long diagonal ball. Hadidian calmly collected the ball in the box, cut around the keeper, and coolly slotted home her final home goal as a student. USD pressed with re-found intensity, but the Tritons were able to hold onto their 1-0 win as time ran out, continuing their successful spring season. They look to close their spring league games with a win at UC Riverside this Saturday.
