With only the moon to light their path, the Tritons drove two hours from Tucson to Phoenix for the highly anticipated clash with ASU on February 5th. The Tritons were unfazed by the pregame flexing and protein chugging, and came out on fire. Jon “Eggplant” Clausen fired home the first goal off an ASU mistake. The Tritons went into halftime up a goal. The Tritons, tired from the ten hours of driving from the previous day, came out a bit sluggish. UC San Diego let in two easy goals at the beginning of the second half. The Tritons looked around and saw their coach, sunburnt, shoeless, and unfazed on the sideline, and found the confidence to mount a comeback. Jon “Eggplant” Clausen picked off an ASU back pass and rounded the keeper to tie the game up at two. Later, some well worked wing play lead to a cross that found Aric  Diesen. Diesen burnt the ASU defender to a crisp and cut a pass back to Francisco Salinas who rocketed a shot into the back of the net. Tritons 3. Arizona State 2. Eggplants for everyone.
