On Saturday, February 10th 2018, the UC San Diego Badminton team traveled to UC Los Angeles in order to face Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (SLO) and UC Riverside in a League Match. Even though UCSD team members were tired from waking up early and from the long drive, they were excited to compete together against other schools. Around noon, UCSD started its first matches against UCR. Even though first seeds for Singles, Leilani Lu and Jason Ho, had to split their games and battle through a third set, UCSD managed to win all the matches in Singles. Similarly, UCSD Women Doubles pairs dominated on the courts and had no trouble gaining three more points for UCSD. However, UCSD Men Doubles and Mixed Doubles pairs had a hard time going past UCR’s players’ defense and ended up splitting and losing their games. Overall, UCSD marked a score of 9-6 against UCR. After a little break, UCSD started their matches against SLO. Once again, UCSD asserted their dominance in Men Singles and gathered the first three points. Then, except for the intense first seeded matches for each event, UCSD players were able to defeat SLO, gaining eight more points. As a result, UCSD won against SLO with a score of 11-4. The league match was a success for the UCSD Badminton team, leaving UC San Diego still undefeated for the current season!
