This past Saturday the Triton Lady Laxers faced off against CSU Fullerton. The Tritons have been on a roll, recently winning the Santa Barbara shootout. Eager to keep their undefeated record, the Tritons continued to demonstrate their superiority against the competition, coming out as 12-7 victors against CSU Fullerton.
The game began with a rocky start, as Fullerton scored the first two goals of the game. Nonetheless, after a pep talk from Coach Gabby, the Tritons began getting into full swing. Sparked by a goal from midfielder Janet Gleason, who would go on to score three more in the game, the Tritons found their rhythm and entered the second half with an advantage of 7-3. This trend continued as the Tritons were able to close out the game in a comfortable manner ending the game 12-7 victors.
In route to this victory the Tritons played a complete game as the defense had impressive stops from Maria McCavitt-Malvido (with almost a 50% save rate) and defenders, Kylie Sagisi and Demi Greiner, who dominated the clears and transitions. On the offensive side of things the Tritons were dominant as various attackers recorded points: Kellen Peddicord (1 goal, 1 assist), Nicole Goodwin (1 goal, 1 assist), Jiyoung Yun (2 assists), Danielle Viviani (1 goal), and Michaela Juels (5 goals, 5 assists). The spread of points demonstrated an unbelievable team effort with over than half of goals being assisted by a fellow teammate!
With both teams being very competitive and determined, there were many injuries during the game. The Fullerton goalie suffered a head slam and had to sit out for a few minutes. Frequently injured attacker, Danielle Viviani, suffered a brutal shoulder injury. Attacker, Jiyoung Yun, twisted her ankle. We hope Fullerton and my fellow team a speedy recovery!
The Tritons look forward to facing off against CSU San Marcos on February 28th, the supposed top team in the WWLL!
