Tritons Takes 4th Place at the Annual Santa Barbara Tournament (3W-1L)

The UCSD Tritons traveled to Santa Barbara over the holiday weekend where they faced four WCLA D2 teams. The Tritons started the weekend with a tight game against Utah Valley University who ended up going undefeated in the tournament. Goals were exchanged between the two teams, however, Utah ended up coming out on top with the final score being 9-10. Freshman Goalie Lindsay Rubin had a standout game saving 10 of the 20 shots on goal. With 9 yellow cards given between the two teams, the Tritons stepped off the field a little roughed up, however, later that day they returned more ready than ever to take on University of Nevada Reno. In the first quarter, the Tritons put up 5 goals on the scoreboard. The midfield dominated draw controls and possession was concentrated on UCSD’s offensive end. Junior Captain Delainey Iles was the top scorer with 8 goals. The game ended with a score of 20-4. On Sunday, the Tritons returned to the Polo Club for the second day of the tournament. Their first game was against Chico State. The Tritons maintained control throughout most of the four quarters and the game ended with a score of 18-3. Junior Captain Delainey Iles put away 7 goals, Sophomore Sophia Terenik & Sophomore Kayla Tracy both had 3 goals, and Freshman Emily Schittino with 2 goals. Sophomore Isabel Wang had a strong performance with 1 takeaway, 2 ground balls, and 1 assist. The Tritons then headed into their last game against Cal Poly B. The team fought hard and maintained high energy despite their tired legs. With connections in the midfield, well-placed shots, and intensity on both ends of the field, the Tritons played the best as a team in their last game with a final score of 21-3. The team will head to Irvine next week for a conference game on Sunday against the Anteaters.
