In the first game of the conference season, the Tritons opened up with junior Yousef Koutnik on the mound. Koutnik ran into a little trouble in the first couple innings, giving up five runs. But the Tritons fought back with four runs of their own highlighted by a home run by senior Matthew Demarest. The next couple innings went back and forth with both teams exchanging home runs and the Tritons had two from freshman Seamus Beyerle and one from junior Amandip Bangar. The Tritons held the Lumberjacks to just a few runs in the middle innings thanks to senior Nathan Domico but walks and errors ultimately led to a one-run deficit that the Tritons couldn’t capitalize on in the bottom of the ninth and led to a 11-10 loss.
In the second game of the series, junior Kevin Nieh took the mound and held the Lumberjacks to just four runs over six innings. The Tritons got on the board with key hits from senior Tommy Valles and after being down three runs in the bottom of the sixth, the Tritons mustered a five-run rally that put them ahead 6-4. Senior Nathan Domico came in to close out the game narrowly after giving up one run and inducing a ground ball to senior Patrick Levin to close out the game 6-5.
In the final game of the series, freshman John Driscoll took the mound and held the Jacks to three runs over two innings. But then the Tritons ran out of pitching and walks and errors again plagued the Tritons as they gave up 15 runs over six innings and led to a 15-5 defeat in six innings.
The Tritons look to get back to their winning ways this weekend against St. Katherine’s with a Saturday doubleheader at 11am and 2pm at Valhalla High School. Hope to see you there!
