Tritons Take on the Wildcats
After a victorious battle against UCSB and a rough week of practice, the Tritons made the 7 hour trek down to Tucson, AZ to play the University of Arizona Women’s Rugby team - the Wildcats. The Tritons played in Beast mode for the entirety of the 80+ minute game. Forward vet, Roslin Amezcua, made a fantastic break-away, scoring the first try for UCSD and setting the tone for the rest of the game. Scrum-half, Kelsey Racette, added “Kicker” to her long list of rugby skills and made all the difference in the game when she scored a total of 4 conversion points. Less than two minutes later, Fullback Jessie Boyne sprinted past the competition and made the second try. In one of the last plays of the first half, returner Amara Sengamphan set the Tritons up to start the second half winning 19-5. After an intense fight, the Tritons secured the win with a 19-15 final score. Blood, sweat, and tears were put into the game, defending our try-zone with ferocity and pushing back the Wildcats time and time again. Communication between the forwards and the backs was impeccable, and morale was high from start to finish. Adaption was the word of the game, with players filling in positions without hesitation. There is no doubt about it that the UCSD Women’s Rugby team does not simply ride the wave, they bring the storm.
