Tritons Take on Challenging Conditions in Lovely Long Beach!
This past weekend UCSD’s Sailing Team competed in PCCSC’s South Designate Regatta in Alamitos Bay. The wind, the people, the vibes were immaculate making it a great weekend of sailing. Racing commenced on Saturday at 11am sharp, with the wind filling in over the course of the afternoon, building to nineteen knots at 4pm making the later races fast paced and action packed. Mishaps occurred by other teams but UCSD’s steady sailors stood strong, sailing superbly. Saturday finished with a sunset sail back to the dock, where we were met by a barbeque by USC. Saturday night was filled with a nice meal at Islands where we wished one of our sailors, Madison Greenwald, a happy birthday with an Ice Cream Sunday! After getting a full night’s rest, Sunday morning was ours for the taking. And take we did. Starting at 11am, we sailed the day away. Sunday was just as windy as Saturday, but with much higher gusts, with some describing the conditions as “sendy”, “wild” or “gusty” but everyone can agree on one description – “fun”. We concluded racing at 3pm and headed back to San Diego, supremely happy with the weekend.
