UC San Diego has had an exciting start to their season this past weekend at CSU Long Beach going 4 and 0 at the South vs East Crossover. Gina “G-Nasty” Powers began the day serving up trouble for the opponents and setting the Tritons up for big wins. The first 3 matches were easily won due to the spicy, high-level play of the team. Even an opposing fan, Grandma Greenpants, had to admit that watching the Tritons bang balls made her old bones tingle.
The team grew closer during breaks by hanging out in the nook, eating G-Nasty Power brownies packed with peanut butter protein, and discussing beef jerky’s uncanny resemblance to the scabs on Alicia “Chenatown” Chen’s perfectly tan legs. As it came time to warm up we whipped out our jump ropes and got our blood pumping as a team. Warm up entertainment was provided by the musical stylings of Captain Amanda “Snake Maiden” Dieterle and a super snazzy dog in a bandana.
Sweat dripped on the court as the team fought for the fourth match. The Lady Tritons won the first game. Down in the second, Captain Sydney “Face-Licker” Riegert pet the poodle causing the saliva to drip right out of her mouth. The score increased. The teams were neck and neck: 23-23, 24-24, 25-25. The emotions were at an all-time high when Julia “White Fawn” House slammed a ball through the seam setting the Tritons up for a victory with another point, but unfortunately UC San Diego was unable to pull out the second game. But this was alright, because that just meant that the Tritons got to play more volleyball, and boy do they love third games! Tritoning (trying) hard to finish the day with a win the team played with fire, murderlizing Fullerton in the third game.
Next week for the Tritons, love is in the air and so is another possibility of a 4-0 day in the outRAGEously beautiful city of Santa Barbara.
