UC San Diego Field Hockey played USC on Saturday October 15, 2016. With no girl subs, they held possession for the majority of the game and still managed to keep up the pace. After an aggressive first half, the score still remained 0-0. UC San Diego came into the second half determined to score, with several shots on cage that were deflected by their goalie or slightly out of reach. Erika Nilsson made several saves that helped the team continue their tie, but the game ended with the initial score of 0-0.
In the second game of the weekend, UC San Diego started off strong during their home game against the UCSB Gauchos, with Alberto Montilla scoring a goal within the first few minutes. The team kept the momentum going as they continued to make great passes and maintain possession for the first half, with 3 more goals by Alberto, midfielder Caroline Henderson, and forward Sami Brinton. Starting off the second half, goalie Erika Nilsson helped the team with two incredible saves, keeping the Gauchos shut out. Shortly after, forward Kiara Suzuki sprinted up the field after a hard hit ball by Sabrina Gonzalez and took the ball to goal, creating the perfect set up for a goal by Abby Sumi and then following this, a goal by Kiara herself. Vinnu Bardwhaj also scored an incredible goal, chipping the ball into the corner of the net. The final score was 7-0 UC San Diego, as they continue their season undefeated and without any goals scored against them.
