Tritons Make a Mighty Effort at the Mustang Open
The UCSD Sailing Team traveled up to Morro Bay for the 2022 edition of the Mustang Women's and Open Regatta. Sailors arrived on Saturday morning to extreme winds, often over 30 knots. Because of this, racing was cancelled on Saturday after 1 race, during which many sailors found themselves flipping over and taking a swim. Sailors headed indoors to get warm and share spaghetti provided by the Cal Poly Sailing Team. The food and god vibes helped to lift everyone's spirits after the battle with Mother Nature. Sunday proved to be somewhat more reasonable, with high winds again but with nothing UCSD Sailors couldn't handle. UCSD Women's and Open teams went out and battled the elements to secure some amazing finishes. Svenja Leonard and Liza Pertseva led the charge for the women, winning two races and working with Amanda Brooks and Nina Folz to secure a 3rd place podium finish. On the Open side, our Open sailors secured a 9th place finish. Sailors left tired but with high spirits after some inspiring performances. UCSD now looks to make a case for nationals qualification for both the Women's and Open teams during the upcoming championship season.
