The UCSD Ice Hockey team took on the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs on the 3rd of Febuary, in a back in forth match-up. Even though the Tritons put up a good fight in the game they were ultimately defeated with a scoreline of 4-3 by the Banana Slugs.
The game started in an optimistic manner for the Tritons, as after ten minutes of play, Senior Liam Jablonski opened up the scoring with a goal, assisted by Stefan Jovanovic. This joy was short lived however as Santa Cruz responded two minutes later with a goal of their own to tie the game up at 1-1. With three minutes to go in the first period, UCSD regained the lead once again as Patrick Salmas netted a goal that went over the left leg of the goaltender. But once again the banana slugs found their way back into the game as with two and a half minutes left in the second period, the game was tied again with a scoreline of 2-2.
In the final period, UCSD unfolded as the Banana Slugs scored two goals, while the Tritons were unfortunately only able to score one. The game ended with a scoreline of 4-3 in favor of the UC Santa Cruz.
