This past weekend, February 25th, UC San Diego Club Baseball travelled to Phoenix to take on Grand Canyon University in a conference series.
In the first game, Yousef Koutnik pitched for the Tritons and held the GCU Lopes to only 2 runs in his 6 innings of work, but the Triton bats never woke up and UC San Diego lost the game 2-0.
In game 2, Andrew Campos pitched for UC San Diego and got roughed up by GCU’s hot bats. Campos gave up 6 runs in 4 innings and was followed by Kevin Nieh who gave up 2 runs in his 2 innings. The Triton offense woke up a bit thanks to Shane Aldas and Seamus Beyerle but they still lost the game 8-4.
In game 3, Shane Aldas pitched and was excellent giving up 3 runs in 8 innings while driving in a run and scoring the tying run in the top of the 8th inning to make it a 3-3 game. GCU would fight back in the 9th to win the game 4-3 on a hit by pitch and sweep the Tritons.
After this weekend’s games the Tritons move to 0-6 in conference play. UC San Diego’s next games will be this weekend, March 4th, at home (Bonita Vista HS) vs the University of Arizona.
